2026 and 2027 Long Weekends: Dates and How to Bridge Them

🇧🇷 POR | 🇫🇷 FR | 🇺🇸 EN | 🇪🇸 ES

The 2026 and 2027 long weekends add up to at least ten three- or four-day weekends through the end of 2027 — four of them still this year — and that’s not even counting Carnival. The fixed dates come from the law, and the movable ones depend on Easter; below you’ll find all of them, with the day of the week and the day off worth requesting to bridge the gap.

Through December 2026, the long weekends are 10/12 (Monday), 11/2 (Monday), 11/20 (Friday) and 12/25 (Friday). In 2027, the three-day ones are 1/1, Good Friday (3/26) and 11/15; the four-day ones, by bridging a Monday, are 9/7, 10/12 and 11/2, which fall on a Tuesday. Carnival (2/8 and 2/9) and Corpus Christi (5/27) are optional days off.

What long weekends are left in 2026?

From October to December 2026, four long weekends remain, all three days long: Our Lady of Aparecida (Monday, 10/12), All Souls’ Day (Monday, 11/2), Black Consciousness Day (Friday, 11/20) and Christmas (Friday, 12/25). Republic Day, on 11/15, falls on a Sunday and doesn’t create an extra day off.

The year ends with one more long weekend: January 1, 2027 falls on a Friday, and New Year’s Eve becomes a long weekend from Thursday night to Sunday. New Year’s destinations are in the New Year’s Eve 2027 guide.

What are the 2027 holidays and which become long weekends?

In Voyage Voyage’s October 2026 survey, the 2027 calendar has 10 national holidays, three of them on a Saturday; with four well-chosen days off, 9/7, 10/12, 11/2 and Corpus Christi become four-day weekends. Carnival and Corpus Christi are optional days off, and the government decree with the official 2027 dates comes out in December.

In 2027 there are three national holidays that give three days off without bridging — 1/1 (Friday), Good Friday (3/26) and Republic Day (11/15, Monday) — and three that become four days with a Monday off: 9/7, 10/12 and 11/2, which fall on a Tuesday. Three dates fall on a Saturday.

November 2027 is the most generous month: All Souls’ Day on Tuesday (11/2) and Republic Day on Monday (11/15) give two long weekends in two weeks. The fixed dates follow Law No. 662/1949 and Law No. 6,802/1980; the movable ones (Carnival, Good Friday and Corpus Christi) are calculated from Easter, which in 2027 falls on March 28. The federal government decree with the 2027 calendar usually comes out in late December — until then, the optional days off remain to be confirmed.

Is November 20 a national holiday?

Yes. National Zumbi and Black Consciousness Day, on November 20, has been a national holiday since Law No. 14,759 of December 21, 2023. In 2026, it falls on a Friday and forms a three-day weekend; in 2027, it falls on a Saturday.

Before the federal law, the date was a holiday only in some states and cities, which is why there’s still some confusion. Today it applies across the whole country and appears as a national holiday in the official 2026 calendar published by the federal government (Congresso em Foco, Jan/2026).

One week after the 11/20/2026 holiday comes Black Friday, on 11/27. For anyone traveling at the end of the year, the travel Black Friday guide shows how to compare flight and hotel prices before buying.

Are Carnival and Corpus Christi holidays?

Not on the national calendar: Carnival and Corpus Christi are federal optional days off, and whether you get the day depends on your employer — or on a state or municipal law that turns the date into a local holiday. In 2027, Carnival is on February 8 and 9, with Ash Wednesday on 2/10, and Corpus Christi on Thursday 5/27. Who gets the day off, each state’s rules and the best bridging are in the Carnival 2027: holiday or optional day off guide. If you’re spending Carnival in Rio, you’ll find prices and services for the Rio Carnival 2027 VIP boxes.

In practice, Carnival gives four or five days to anyone granted Saturday through Wednesday morning off. The guides to Rio Carnival 2027, Salvador Carnival 2027, São Paulo Carnival 2027, Ouro Preto Carnival 2027 and Recife and Olinda Carnival 2027 have parade dates, street parties and where to stay; to see the parades at the Sambódromo, check sections and tickets for the Special Group. If you’d rather escape the festivities, take a look at the Carnival 2027 cruise.

Corpus Christi is a municipal holiday in several state capitals, including São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. In those places, with Thursday off guaranteed, one day (Friday, 5/28/2027) is all you need to bridge four.

How to bridge holidays and gain more days off?

The math is simple: a holiday on Tuesday or Thursday calls for one day off on Monday or Friday and gives you four days; a holiday on Wednesday calls for two days off and gives you five. In 2027, with four days off — 9/6, 10/11, 11/1 and 5/28 — you gain four four-day weekends.

  1. Request the day off early. Bridge days are competitive at work; whoever asks first usually gets them. Comp time and split vacation (Brazilian labor law allows splitting vacation into up to three periods) are the most common routes.
  2. Combine a holiday with vacation. A one-week vacation starting right after Good Friday (3/26/2027) or Carnival gives you nine or ten days away for five vacation days.
  3. Tiradentes on a Wednesday. In 2027, 4/21 falls midweek: take Monday and Tuesday (4/19 and 4/20) or Thursday and Friday (4/22 and 4/23) off and you’re away for five days.
  4. Check the local holiday. A state or municipal holiday near a national one can give you almost a full week — see the next section.

Which state holidays bridge in 2027?

Some state holidays fall on a Friday in 2027 and become three-day weekends for residents of that state: the Constitutionalist Revolution in São Paulo (7/9, Friday), Saint George’s Day in Rio de Janeiro (4/23, Friday) and Bahia’s Independence Day (7/2, Friday).

In Rio, Saint George’s Day 2027 is two days from Tiradentes (Wednesday, 4/21): with Thursday 4/22 off, that’s five days in a row. State and municipal holidays vary from place to place, so check the official calendar for your state and city before booking the trip.

Where to travel on each long weekend?

On a three-day weekend, the ideal is a destination up to 4 hours away by car or a short flight; on a four-day weekend or longer, you can already fly to another region or a neighboring country. The season matters too: beaches in the Northeast work year-round, and the mountains of the South shine in winter and at Christmas.

When to buy flights and hotels for a long weekend?

For holidays, buy as early as possible: demand concentrates on the same days, and the best flights and hotels go first. In August 2026, Kayak indicated about 30 days in advance as the ideal window for domestic flights — for holidays, it’s worth starting earlier than that (Kayak, Aug/2026).

Frequently asked questions

How many national holidays are there in 2026?

The federal government’s 2026 calendar has 10 national holidays: 1/1, Good Friday (4/3), Tiradentes (4/21), Labor Day (5/1), Independence Day (9/7), Our Lady of Aparecida (10/12), All Souls’ Day (11/2), Republic Day (11/15), Black Consciousness Day (11/20) and Christmas (12/25), according to MGI Decree No. 11,460 of December 2025.

Has the official 2027 holiday calendar come out yet?

Not yet. The federal government usually publishes the decree with the following year’s holidays and optional days off in late December — the 2026 one came out on 12/29/2025. The dates of the 2027 national holidays are already known from the laws and the Easter calendar; what’s left to confirm are the optional days off, like Carnival and Corpus Christi.

When is Good Friday 2027?

Good Friday, or the Passion of Christ, falls on March 26, 2027, since Easter 2027 is on Sunday, March 28. The date is listed as a national holiday in the federal government’s calendar and forms a three-day weekend, from Friday to Sunday.

Is Corpus Christi a holiday?

Corpus Christi is not a national holiday: on the federal calendar it’s an optional day off. In 2027, it falls on Thursday, May 27. Several cities, like São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, have Corpus Christi as a municipal holiday by local law, and there the day off is guaranteed — check your city’s calendar.

What’s the best holiday to travel on in 2027?

The best holidays to travel on in 2027 are the ones that fall on a Tuesday — September 7, October 12 and November 2 — because a single Monday off gives you four days in a row. Carnival, from February 6 to 10, is the longest, but it depends on your company granting the optional days off.

Conclusion

In 2026, you can still enjoy four three-day long weekends; in 2027, with four well-chosen days off, you turn 9/7, 10/12, 11/2 and Corpus Christi into four-day weekends. Mark the dates, request your bridge days early, and come back to this Voyage Voyage guide in December, when the official 2027 decree comes out.
