How do you buy a Machu Picchu ticket on the official site?

Buy on the TuBoleto recommended by the Ministry: select circuit, route, date and time; check your ID and download the PDF.

  1. Go to the official TuBoleto through the cultura.pe domain.
  2. Create your account and pick an available date.
  3. Compare circuit and route; similar names deliver very different views.
  4. Fill in your details exactly as they appear on your passport.
  5. Pay on the platform and save the ticket, receipt and a screenshot of the booking.

Don’t hand over your account access to a “facilitator” you found on social media. The Ministry of Culture runs the online sales and shows real-time availability. If the payment fails, first check whether the booking is still active before trying the charge again.

Alternatives with a ticket or agency support

If the main circuits are sold out, check the last-minute Machu Picchu tour. Read exactly which circuit, train, bus and guide are included; commercial availability doesn’t replace official ticket confirmation.

The Cusco Tourist Ticket covers regional attractions but doesn’t include Machu Picchu. To compare other tours and transfers, see the things to do in Cusco.

Regardless of the provider, the name and ID must match the ticket. Confirm the route and time in writing before booking a train or a non-refundable hotel.

Safe order: ticket → train → hotel → bus. Flip the sequence and you may end up with transport booked for a day when your chosen circuit has no slots.

Which Machu Picchu circuit should you choose?

Choose Circuit 2 for the classic experience through the citadel; Circuit 1 prioritizes panoramic views, while Circuit 3 combines the lower sector with specific routes.

Circuit Best for Main limitation
1 Panoramic Wide shots and viewpoints Less of the citadel’s interior
2 Classic First visits and the central ruins Highly contested slots
3 Royalty Lower sector and associated mountains Classic view isn’t the same as Circuit 2

Routes 2-A and 2-B are the closest options to the classic visit, but they follow one-way paths. Don’t count on freely returning to a viewpoint once you’ve moved on. Intipunku, Inca Bridge, Huchuypicchu and Gran Caverna routes may only operate in high season.

The Inca Trail ticket is tied to Circuit 3B in 2026. Finishing the trek doesn’t mean you automatically get the classic circuit. Read the full route name, not just the circuit number.

If your chosen circuit includes one of the mountains, check the full comparison between Machu Picchu Mountain or Huayna Picchu to decide which one to climb before you complete your purchase.

What’s the best time to enter Machu Picchu?

Between 08:00 and 09:00 to balance light and logistics; the 2026 resolution allows up to 5,600 visitors per day in high season, and mid-morning slots sell out.

The first slot cuts down some of the crowds, but it means sleeping in Machupicchu Pueblo and waking before dawn. Fog can hide the view and then burn off later; there’s no weather guarantee. Entries between 08:00 and 09:00 give you buffer for the bus and still leave the whole morning for the circuit.

The 15:00 slot suits those staying in the village afterward, but any train delay becomes risky. Never plan to arrive from Cusco and enter the same morning with a tight connection. Allow at least 30 minutes between reaching the gate and your printed slot.

The best time isn’t the emptiest one on paper; it’s the one you can reach without train, bus and line all fitting together at the limit.

How much does a Machu Picchu ticket cost?

The general foreign rate for Circuit 2 costs around R$230 (S/152, Aug 2026), according to the official resolution; students and minors pay their own categories with valid documentation.

In practice, budget R$380–460 per adult (Aug 2026): around R$230 for the ticket + R$150–230 for the round-trip bus and a margin for water/restrooms. Train and lodging are separate because they vary widely by origin and category. Check the official rate before paying.

The student promotional price requires a document accepted under Peruvian rules; a card without a valid date may be refused. Register the correct category from the start. Buying a different rate at the gate isn’t a reliable fix when the circuit is sold out.

Frequently asked questions

How far in advance should you buy Machu Picchu tickets?

Buy Machu Picchu as soon as your 2026 date opens, especially for Circuit 2 and high season. The government opened annual reservations in November 2025; central slots can sell out months ahead. In low demand, some dates stay available closer in.

Do you need to bring your passport to Machu Picchu?

Bring the original document you used to buy your Machu Picchu ticket, usually your foreign passport. Name and number must match the ticket. A photo on your phone won’t replace the original if staff ask for ID.

Can you change the date on a Machu Picchu ticket?

Don’t count on a simple date change for your Machu Picchu ticket. Tickets are tied to visitor, circuit, route, date and time. Read the terms before paying and treat any change as an exception subject to the official channel.

Can you buy a ticket in Machu Picchu Pueblo?

Machu Picchu Pueblo offers 1,000 official in-person tickets for the next day, from 06:00 to 22:00 or until they sell out (Aug 2026). It’s a risky plan: it means sleeping in the village, lining up and accepting whatever routes remain.

Conclusion

Lock in your circuit first, then pick the time that works with your transport. Save your ticket and travel with the original document. On Voyage Voyage, keep planning with the Cusco guide and the full Machu Picchu logistics.
