What’s already announced for the 2027 countdown?
Taipei already includes the 2027 countdown in its official tourism calendar, and the full schedule (performers, access and transport) is usually released between late November and December. Until then, the 2025/26 countdown is your best reference.
The Taipei City Government’s English calendar lists December 31, 2026 to January 1, 2027, at City Hall and the surrounding plaza. The official Chinese page describes December activities and the night of Dec 31 from 7 pm to 1 am. 2026 edition For the 2025/26 countdown, the “Taipei Hottest New Year City” party drew around 200,000 people to the City Hall plaza, according to a city estimate based on cellphone signals, with K-pop group KARA performing before the countdown; the four surrounding stations logged 222,000 entries between 4 pm and midnight (Taipei City Government via CNA/UDN).
On the official Taipei 101 portal, the fireworks edition still published is 2025–2026, called “Gen. TAIWAN”: 360 seconds of fireworks in five acts with its own soundtrack, launched through drizzle and cold (CNA, Jan 1, 2026). The 2026/27 theme is usually revealed in December. The Grand Hotel’s private party has its own announcement for Dec 31, 2026, covered separately below.
Free New Year’s Eve in Taipei: the plaza and Taipei 101
Free · public space 2027 calendar. The City Hall plaza in Xinyi is the anchor of Taipei’s public celebration; watching the tower from the street is a different decision from buying an observatory, restaurant or party ticket.

The image shows the 2017 edition. For the next countdown, the city calendar ties the countdown to Taipei 101, and the last two editions lasted 6 minutes (360 seconds, in 2025/26). Format, music and projections change every year.
City Hall Square sits in Xinyi, the business and shopping district where Taipei 101 stands. Taipei City Hall station serves the area on the blue line; Taipei 101/World Trade Center serves the tower on the red line. For the 2025/26 countdown, Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall station split exits for the party crowd (2, 3 and 4) and the concert crowd (5), and lines on the blue and red lines got long after the fireworks (Taiwan News). Avoid relying on a crossing that might close near the countdown.
Staying in Xinyi lets you plan your exit on foot back to the hotel. Check the address and the route before you book: See hotels in Xinyi for Dec 30 to Jan 2.
Where to watch the Taipei 101 fireworks
To see the tower from outside, consider the City Hall plaza, Xiangshan or Rainbow Riverside Park. Each option changes the experience: the plaza for the party, the mountain for the skyline and the riverbank for a more distant composition. The view depends on the exact spot, the weather and that night’s access rules.
City Hall and the streets of Xinyi: to join the celebration
This is the most coherent choice if you want to hear the stage and be part of the countdown. Taipei 101 sits among tall buildings: being in the district doesn’t mean you’ll see the whole tower. Before you settle in, check whether trees, awnings and buildings cut your sightline; keep walkways clear and follow the barriers set up by organizers.
Xiangshan (Elephant Mountain): open views, with stairs
Xiangshan lies southeast of Taipei 101 and has platforms for taking in the skyline. The city’s trail guide documents demanding stretches of stairs, with steps that can exceed 25 cm. The climb is a physical activity, and the descent in the dark deserves as much planning as the photo.
Visit the trail by day first, wear shoes with good grip and bring a light, and don’t make the viewpoint your first hiking experience at midnight with small children. Platforms have limited space; arriving at the mountain doesn’t mean you have a spot reserved. On countdown night, the trail usually fills up early; arrive hours ahead or pick another spot.

Rainbow Riverside Park: the tower seen from the riverbank
The city’s hydraulic engineering agency lists Rainbow Riverside Park as a spot for viewing and photographing Taipei 101. It’s a geographic alternative to the plaza, not a reserved viewing area for 2027. The tower appears farther away; if you want the details of the fireworks, weigh that difference before bringing gear or choosing your hotel.
The park sits along the Keelung River, north of Xinyi. Plan your route back from the riverbank, not just from the metro station. For families and people with reduced mobility, check the specific park access, the step-free route and the actual distance to a restroom.
| Spot | Choose it if you want | Practical limitation |
|---|---|---|
| City Hall / Xinyi | Stage and countdown at the public hub | Crowd of around 200,000 (2025/26); buildings may block the view |
| Xiangshan | Skyline seen from above | Stairs and a night descent; limited platforms |
| Rainbow Riverside Park | Composition with the river and a distant tower | The trip back from the riverbank needs planning |
| Taipei 101 Observatory | Visiting the attraction during regular hours | A standard ticket doesn’t allow you to stay at midnight |
Which paid parties are confirmed?
The Grand Hotel’s SPARK THE NIGHT is announced to ring in 2027. It’s an indoor ballroom party with music and drinks, separate from the public celebration in Xinyi; choose based on what the ticket includes and how you’ll get back, and don’t treat the ticket as special access to Taipei 101.

SPARK THE NIGHT 2027: lineup and conditions
The hotel’s announcement lists HOT SHOCK, Follow Band, DJ Hime, MC Experience and HIGH GIRLS. The ticket includes a wristband, unlimited soft drinks and beer, a surprise cocktail and entry into a raffle. Light food and other drinks are sold on site; no full dinner is described in the ticket.
The hotel’s early-bird rate is NT$1,499 per person before December 1, 2026. The announcement also lists an online rate of NT$1,499, a regular rate of NT$1,699 and an add-on of NT$1,399 for hotel guests or restaurant customers. These are different conditions: the lower price depends on eligibility. The page states that the service charge is not included without specifying the rate there; confirm the total when booking by phone at +886 2 2886-1818, extensions 1530–1534.
There are high-top tables and bag check on the 12th floor, but the ticket doesn’t include assigned seating. Minors need a guardian, and people with disabilities, pregnant women, seniors, children and anyone feeling unwell should enter accompanied by a nearby adult, per the hotel’s rules. From age 6, each person is charged individually; under 18s can’t drink alcohol.
For bookings made at the hotel, the published policy provides a full refund before Dec 1, 50% before Dec 17 and 20% before Dec 24; from Dec 25 to 31 there’s no refund. Read the terms tied to your booking before paying. The announcement’s KKday link still shows the 2025–2026 party and “sold out”: buy by phone or through the hotel’s website to secure the 2026/27 edition.
A restaurant with a view and a room with a view are two different purchases
A standard room night doesn’t include the party, balcony access or a Taipei 101 view. If you want to spend midnight inside the hotel, ask for confirmation of the room category, window orientation and access to the party space. A restaurant or rooftop only belongs in your plan once it publishes the correct edition, hours, price and what the ticket entitles you to.
Where to stay for New Year’s Eve in Taipei?
Xinyi is the most direct base for reducing your reliance on transport after the fireworks. Ximending, Taipei Main Station and Zhongshan help you compare prices and do some sightseeing, but they require a plan for getting back from Xinyi. Da’an sits in between; compare the hotel’s street, not just the district name.
Xinyi for walking; the center to compare budgets
Just Inn Xin Yi, Pacific Business Hotel and Home Hotel show up in Xinyi for the travel dates. The advantage is being able to assess an urban route back to your lodging; fireworks views were not included in the rates below. Ximending has amba, Just Sleep and Green World Zhonghua; the last price is for a windowless room, a relevant difference when comparing.
The rates below are for two adults, one room, three nights from Dec 30, 2026 to Jan 2, 2027, with taxes and fees included. Ratings, review counts, room type and price were read on Booking on October 8, 2026. Availability and conditions can change; check the cancellation deadline for the rate you choose.

Zhongshan offers San Want Residences and Tango Linsen for combining the countdown with days downtown. HINOEN sits near the main station area, handy for organizing arrival and departure via the Airport MRT. None of these perks solves the early hours of Jan 1 on its own: choose your party and confirm transport before deciding to save money by staying farther out.

How to get back after midnight?
The most predictable way back is to walk to a hotel whose route you’ve already checked. If you’re relying on the metro, the special 2026/27 plan usually comes out in December; the Taipei Metro‘s permanent rule is service from 6 am to midnight, with a specific last train per station.
How the metro ran for the 2025/26 countdown
2026 edition Taipei Metro ran 42 hours nonstop, from 6 am on Dec 31 to midnight on Jan 1. From 10:30 pm to 6 am, riders boarding at Nanjing Sanmin and Taipei Arena stations traveled free, to ease pressure on Xinyi (about a 20-minute walk from City Hall); an extra bus linked Guangfu South Road to the green line, and the Maokong Gondola ran until 2 am (Taiwan News). The Airport MRT to Taoyuan operates on its own schedule.
Before heading out to the party, save the hotel address in Chinese characters, an offline map and a backup meeting point. The station closest to the tower may have lines or controlled access. Follow staff guidance for the open station and exit, and have a plan B on foot or a pre-arranged ride.
Taxis and the Grand Hotel party
For taxis, arrange pickup outside the restricted area and confirm the driver accepts the trip, without assuming the car will reach the plaza. At the Grand Hotel, the party ends at 12:30 am in the building itself, north of the Xinyi hub. Ask the event staff about pickup, an accessible route and transport available that night; the hotel’s regular shuttle hours don’t confirm service after the party.
How much does New Year’s Eve in Taipei cost?
Three nights in a room for two adults ranged from R$ 3,313 at Green World Zhonghua to R$ 8,544 at Home Hotel among the options on this list (Booking, Oct 2026). Add food, transport, insurance, flights and the party you choose; paying for a private ticket is an additional decision on top of lodging.
The three scenarios show the hotel subtotal plus a regular observatory visit for two people. Use R$ 94.05 per person for the regular ticket checked on Civitatis on October 8, 2026: it doesn’t include a New Year’s Eve party. Flights, meals, transport, insurance and the Grand Hotel ticket are outside these subtotals, with the party charged in NT$.

Sources: Booking and Civitatis, October 8, 2026. Subtotals for two people; different rooms and cancellation policies. Public viewing depends on the access rules set for 2027.
For a paid party, two early-bird Grand Hotel tickets add up to NT$2,998 before the service charge. Keep that expense in the local currency so you don’t hide the fee or an exchange-rate swing. When choosing your flight, compare connection times and the local arrival date: losing Dec 31 in transit changes the whole plan.
What to do on January 1?
January 1 can combine rest with the National Palace Museum, or a daytime visit to Taipei 101. Book one main activity, with room for the night before; the holiday calendar and tour availability need to match your travel date.
National Palace Museum: free-admission policy on Jan 1
The National Palace Museum’s official FAQ provides free admission on January 1 for all nationalities. Regular hours are Tuesday to Sunday, 9 am to 5 pm; Jan 1, 2027 falls on a Friday. The permanent policy lets you plan that day, but it’s worth rechecking the holiday notice and exhibitions before you head over.
Don’t buy a regular museum ticket for Jan 1 without checking the free-admission policy. For that itinerary, choose a relaxed departure from the hotel and save dinner for later; adding a full day trip out of the city after little sleep can make the day exhausting.
Taipei 101 during the day or a tour on another date
The Taipei 101 official site lists regular observatory hours of 10 am to 9 pm, including holidays. That visit shows you the city from above; it’s not a way to watch the fireworks outside at midnight. Check special notices and the visibility forecast before choosing your time slot.

Prices per person checked on October 8, 2026. Times and availability depend on the date; compare the description and conditions before booking.
If you want to get out of Taipei, save the tour for January 2 or for a day before the party, if your stay allows. That way, the first day of the year stays free for resting, visiting the free museum or taking a short trip downtown, with no early commitment after the countdown.
How to plan the countdown with kids and accessibility needs?
With children or reduced mobility, prioritize a checked urban route, restroom access and a short trip back. Xiangshan has stairs and doesn’t offer the same logistics as a plaza; a ballroom party ticket also doesn’t guarantee a seat.
Kids: noise, duration and the trip back
At the plaza, the wait adds to the show and the crowd dispersal. Bring proper hearing protection, clothes for cold and rain, and an ID tag with the guardian’s contact. Prefer a spot you can leave before the countdown without crossing the main flow to get back to the hotel.
At SPARK THE NIGHT, the 2027 rule charges admission from age 6 and requires a guardian for minors. High-top tables and no assigned seating can be tough for families. Don’t treat the drink description as a kid-friendly setup; ask the hotel about the policy for children under 6 and whether it’s possible to rest during the party.
Accessibility: an elevator is only part of the route
Taipei 101/WTC station reports elevators at exits 3 and 5. Choose your exit after checking the event map, because closures can change the route. From the station to the viewing area, check crossings, ramps, sidewalks and accessible restrooms; the station elevator doesn’t prove full access to the crowd area.
Xiangshan involves steps and platforms, so it shouldn’t be the default option for wheelchairs. At the Grand Hotel party, the rules themselves ask for accompaniment for people with disabilities and other groups. Confirm the route to the ballroom, elevator use, seating during the show and pickup after 12:30 am.
What’s the weather like at the countdown?
The countdown falls in Taipei’s winter, influenced by the northeast monsoon, with a chance of cold and rain. Bring layers, waterproof protection and sturdy shoes; the forecast in the final days should decide whether an outdoor wait or a hike makes sense.
Taiwan’s Central Weather Administration explains that the north gets rain in winter and that January has more influence from cold waves than December in Taipei. That describes the regional climate, not a forecast for Dec 31. Rain, low clouds and wind can also hurt visibility of the tower.
A rain jacket takes up less space than an open umbrella in the middle of a crowd. If you’re staying at a viewpoint, think about your clothing during the wait, when your body stops producing the heat of the climb. Check the CWA close to your trip and change your viewing spot if conditions make the descent unsafe.
How to get to Taipei and sort out your documents?
Use Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) as your flight-search reference and plan your arrival before Dec 31. The Airport MRT connects the terminals to Taipei Main Station; from there, the route to your hotel continues on the urban network or by road transport.
Check the Taoyuan Metro’s official schedule for your arrival and departure. Flight time and immigration time can keep you from catching the train you planned, especially at night. Don’t confuse TPE with the city airport Songshan (TSA) when booking transport.
Compare flights to Taoyuan on FlipMilhas considering your arrival date in Taiwan.
If you’re traveling with luggage or a group, compare airport transfers on Civitatis by airport, destination and vehicle capacity.
Before issuing your ticket, check the Bureau of Consular Affairs of Taiwan for the visa rule that applies to your passport and situation. An international layover may require its own documentation; authorization for Taiwan doesn’t automatically cover the layover. Taipei’s time zone is UTC+8, eleven hours ahead of Fortaleza: when booking your hotel, use the local arrival date.
Compare travel insurance for Taiwan by medical coverage, baggage and trip conditions. The choice should reflect your needs and layovers; nothing here claims insurance is mandatory in order to sell you a policy.
What mistakes to avoid on fireworks night?
The costliest mistakes are buying the wrong edition, paying for a view without confirmation and planning your trip back without checking the December transport notice. Sort out those three points before adding a restaurant, tour or viewpoint to your itinerary.
- Year on the ticket: the KKday link from the Grand Hotel still shows 2025/26; confirm Dec 31, 2026 on the booking channel.
- Windowless room: a cheap offer may be that category, as at Green World Zhonghua. Read the full room name.
- Standard observatory ticket: it doesn’t include staying at midnight or access to a special party.
- Price before the service charge: the Grand Hotel party excludes the fee, so the advertised price isn’t automatically the final total.
- Viewpoint in the dark: a daytime scouting trip, a flashlight and proper shoes come before choosing the photo.
- Neighborhood name: a hotel in Taipei doesn’t mean a walk back from Xinyi. Compare the full address and route.

FAQ
Is New Year’s Eve in Taipei 2027 already confirmed?
Taipei’s city calendar lists Dec 31, 2026 to Jan 1, 2027, and the SPARK THE NIGHT party at the Grand Hotel has already been announced. Performers and the Taipei 101 fireworks theme usually come out in December; for the 2025/26 countdown, there were 360 seconds of fireworks for around 200,000 people.
Does the Taipei metro run all night on New Year’s Eve?
For the 2025/26 countdown, yes: the metro ran 42 hours straight, from 6 am on Dec 31 to midnight on Jan 1, with free rides in the early hours from Nanjing Sanmin and Taipei Arena stations. The 2026/27 plan usually comes out in December; otherwise, regular hours are 6 am–midnight.
Is the Taipei 101 Observatory open at midnight?
The regular hours published by Taipei 101 are 10 am–9 pm, including holidays. A regular ticket doesn’t allow you to stay at midnight. Any special New Year’s Eve operation needs its own edition, hours and conditions.
Is Xiangshan wheelchair accessible?
Xiangshan has demanding stretches of stairs and viewing platforms. The trail shouldn’t be presented as a default option for wheelchairs. Prefer a checked urban route with elevators, ramps and access allowed by the event map.
Can kids go to the Grand Hotel party?
The 2027 SPARK THE NIGHT requires an individual ticket from age 6 and a guardian accompanying minors. No assigned seating is included, and under 18s can’t drink alcohol. Confirm with the hotel the policy for children under 6.
To compare another countdown in Asia, see New Year’s Eve in Seoul, with the Bosingak ceremony and planning the trip back at night.
Which countdown plan should you choose?
Choose Xinyi if your priority is organizing the fireworks and walking back to your hotel; consider the Grand Hotel if you’d rather have a ballroom party with an announced lineup and drinks. To save on lodging, compare Ximending and Zhongshan along with the cost and availability of getting back.
For a countdown without fireworks and with a temple ritual, also see New Year’s Eve in Tokyo, with hatsumode at Meiji Jingu and Senso-ji.
