How much does Carnival 2027 cost: for a couple flying out of São Paulo, five nights in a well-rated hotel, flights, food and transport add up to about R$ 6,590 in BH, R$ 7,693 in Recife and more than R$ 10,000 in Rio and Salvador (Oct 2026). Street partying is free in every city; what hurts is the hotel and, in the Northeast, the flight. Book with free cancellation while prices are still at this level.

How much Carnival costs in each city
The table adds up the basics of a five-night trip for a couple: a well-rated hotel in the cheapest neighborhood that still keeps the party close, round-trip flights, two meals a day and two metro or bus rides a day. Tickets, abadá and drinks are left out, because they depend on how you like to party.
| City | Hotel, 5 nights | Flights (2 people) | Food and transport | Couple total (Oct 2026) | Book |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rio de Janeiro | R$ 7,728 (Lapa) | R$ 2,374 | R$ 1,426 | R$ 11,528 | |
| Salvador | R$ 4,458 (Santo Antônio) | R$ 5,284 | R$ 1,216 | R$ 10,958 | |
| Recife and Olinda | R$ 3,750 (Boa Viagem) | R$ 2,758 | R$ 1,185 | R$ 7,693 | |
| Belo Horizonte | R$ 3,975 (Centro) | R$ 1,532 | R$ 1,083 | R$ 6,590 | |
| São Paulo | R$ 1,430 (Santa Cecília) | R$ 840 | R$ 1,354 | R$ 3,624 |
Two numbers stand out. In Salvador, the flight costs more than the hotel: in October 2026, the flight from São Paulo was going for R$ 2,642 per person, round trip, and a well-rated pousada in Santo Antônio Além do Carmo cost R$ 4,458 for the five nights. In Rio, it’s the opposite: the flight is cheap and the hotel is the most expensive in the country over the holiday. São Paulo comes in last because the math uses someone coming from Rio, at R$ 420 per flight, and because the city has plenty of hotels.

Hotels: how much a hotel costs during Carnival
The hotel is the biggest expense in almost every city, and the price changes a lot from one neighborhood to another. Staying within walking distance of the party costs more; staying 20 minutes away by metro can cut the bill in half.
| City | Cheapest with a good rating | Near the party | Most expensive | Neighborhood guide |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rio | Barra da Tijuca: R$ 5,578 | Lapa and Centro: R$ 7,728 | Copacabana: R$ 25,940 | Where to stay in Rio |
| Salvador | Santo Antônio: R$ 4,458 | Barra: R$ 17,132 | Barra and Ondina: around R$ 17,000 | Where to stay in Salvador |
| Recife and Olinda | Boa Viagem: R$ 3,750 | Centro do Recife: R$ 4,750 | Sítio Histórico de Olinda: R$ 13,920 | Where to stay in Recife and Olinda |
| São Paulo | Santa Cecília: R$ 1,430 | Consolação: R$ 2,059 | Pinheiros: R$ 2,332 | Where to stay in São Paulo |
| Belo Horizonte | Pampulha: R$ 2,692 | Centro: R$ 3,975 | Savassi: R$ 4,427 | Carnival in BH |
Total of 5 nights for 2 adults, Feb 5–10, 2027, on Booking, in hotels rated 8 or higher with free cancellation, checked in October 2026.
Prices climb as the holiday approaches and rooms run out. In October 2026, four months before the party, Barra in Salvador and the Copacabana seafront already had few hotels with availability. Booking now with free cancellation locks in the price without tying up your money: if your plans change, you cancel.
Flights for Carnival: how much they cost and when to buy
In October 2026, round-trip flights from São Paulo, departing Friday, Feb 5, and returning on Ash Wednesday, Feb 10, started at around R$ 766 to BH and reached R$ 2,642 to Salvador, per person, on Google Flights. The search engine itself flagged prices to Salvador as high for those dates.
| Route (out Feb 5, back Feb 10) | From, per person | Note | Compare |
|---|---|---|---|
| São Paulo → Belo Horizonte | R$ 766 | Direct flight departing from Congonhas | See flights › |
| São Paulo → Rio | R$ 1,187 | Direct flight from Guarulhos to Galeão from R$ 1,308 | See flights › |
| São Paulo → Recife | R$ 1,379 | Direct and connecting flights | See flights › |
| São Paulo → Salvador | R$ 2,642 | The cheapest departs from Viracopos, in Campinas; from Congonhas, from R$ 3,639 | See flights › |
| Rio → São Paulo | R$ 420 | Direct flight from Galeão to Guarulhos | See flights › |
Lowest round-trip fare for 1 adult, with taxes and no checked baggage, checked on 10/11/2026.
Two tricks bring that bill down. The first is checking other airports: for Salvador, the flight departing from Campinas cost R$ 1,000 less per person than the one from Congonhas. The second is using miles, which usually stretch further on peak dates. On FlipMilhas you compare the cash fare and the miles fare in the same place.
Free or paid partying: how much it costs to join Carnival
In all five cities you can spend the entire Carnival without paying for a ticket: blocos, parades and the pipoca crowd behind the trio are free. You only pay if you want bleachers at the samba school parade, a bloco abadá or a camarote.
| Where | What’s paid | 2027 price | More details |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rio · Sapucaí | Bleachers and frisa for the Grupo Especial (Feb 7, 8 and 9) | Bleachers R$ 250 per night, half price R$ 125; frisas from R$ 1,835 to R$ 10,200 (Sep 2026, Ticketmaster) | Sapucaí camarotes |
| Rio · Série Ouro | Bleachers (Feb 5 and 6) | R$ 45 (Aug 2026) | Série Ouro |
| São Paulo · Anhembi | Bleachers for the Grupo Especial (Feb 5 and 6) | R$ 109 to R$ 189 plus 15% fee, 2nd batch (Oct 2026) | Carnival in SP |
| Salvador · blocos | Abadá to parade inside the rope | R$ 220 to R$ 1,990 per day (batches announced in Feb 2026) | Carnival in Salvador |
| Salvador · camarotes | Venue with bar, food and shows along Barra–Ondina | R$ 650 to R$ 3,090 per day (batches announced in 2026) | Pipoca, bloco or camarote |
| Recife, Olinda and BH | Nothing mandatory: the party is in the street | Free | Recife and Olinda |
Buy tickets, abadá and camarote only through the official channel: Sapucaí tickets are sold through Ticketmaster, and each Salvador bloco or camarote sells on its own website. Resale through social media and Pix payments to individuals are the most common scam of the holiday.
Food, drinks and transport during Carnival
A full meal (main dish, drink, dessert and coffee) cost an average of R$ 63.40 in Rio and R$ 62.30 in São Paulo, R$ 56.70 in Salvador, R$ 54.80 in Recife and R$ 47.90 in BH, according to the ABBT survey conducted by Fipe in December 2025 (Fipe/ABBT). During Carnival, eating lunch at a neighborhood restaurant and grabbing a snack on the street costs less than that.
On the street, licensed vendors follow a price list set by the sponsor. In 2026, in São Paulo, the cheapest beer can went for R$ 7 and water for R$ 5 (2026 price list); on the Salvador circuits, the two-can combo cost R$ 13 to R$ 18 (A Tarde, Jan 2026).
| City | Metro | Bus | During Carnival 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rio | R$ 7.90 (MetrôRio) | R$ 5.00 | Metro open 24 hours on party days |
| São Paulo | R$ 5.40 | R$ 5.30 | Extended hours on lines serving the megablocos |
| Salvador | R$ 4.10 | R$ 5.90 | Metro open 24 hours and free Buzu da Folia |
| Recife | Bilhete Único R$ 4.47 on buses | R$ 4.47 | Express buses from shopping malls at R$ 25 round trip |
| Belo Horizonte | R$ 6.00 | R$ 6.25 | Extra service on lines near the blocos |
2026 fares (January 2026 adjustments); the BH metro went up in July 2026. The 2027 fares come out in January.
Ride-hailing apps get expensive and slow on party days, because streets near the blocos close and surge pricing kicks in after midnight. That’s why the math above uses metro and bus, and the where-to-stay guides prioritize neighborhoods you can reach on foot or by metro.

How to spend less during Carnival 2027
- Book now with free cancellation. In October, prices are still pre-rush; close to the party, only the expensive rooms are left.
- Sleep one neighborhood over. In Recife, Boa Viagem costs less than a third of Sítio Histórico de Olinda; in Rio, Lapa costs less than the seafront.
- Try another airport and another date. Campinas for Salvador and returning Thursday, Feb 11, are the easiest cuts.
- Party for free. Pipoca in Salvador, the slopes of Olinda, Galo da Madrugada, and the blocos of Rio, SP and BH charge nothing.
- Use half-price where it counts. At the Sapucaí, students, seniors and teachers pay R$ 125 for bleachers.
- Eat before heading out. Drinks and snacks on the street add up fast; a hearty hotel breakfast holds you for much of the day.
If the budget doesn’t work out in any of the capitals, there are options with no partying and much lower nightly rates, like Curitiba and Aracaju, in the guide to where to travel for Carnival. And a Carnival cruise bundles lodging, food and partying into a single price, starting at R$ 4,967 per person (Sep/2026).
