Camarote, frisa or grandstand: what actually changes
A camarote is an enclosed area in one sector of the Sapucaí, with a bar, food, its own restrooms and shows between parades, and it costs far more than other tickets. The Grupo Especial special grandstand went for R$ 250 per night in the general sale on Aug 10, 2026, with no consumption included (Tupi, Jul 2026), and the frisa, a table for your group at trackside, ranged from R$ 1,835 to R$ 10,200 per night in Sep 2026.
| Option | Price per night | In practice | For whom |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grandstand | R$ 250 for Grupo Especial (Aug 2026, sold out in Sep 2026); R$ 45 to R$ 65 for Série Ouro (Sep 2026) | Concrete steps, open seating, sector bars | First-timers and tight budgets |
| Frisa | R$ 1,835 to R$ 10,200 for the group (Sep 2026) | Table at trackside, no cover | Groups that want a close-up view |
| Camarote | R$ 1,300 to R$ 5,900 per person (Aug 2026) | Open bar, food, restrooms, shows and transfer | Those who want comfort and a party |
In practice, the camarote trades the trackside view for comfort and an organized ride home in the early hours. Sectors and grandstand tickets are in the Grupo Especial and Série Ouro guides.

Prices: Lounge Carioca on its official page in Oct 2026; the rest from Ticketmaster’s Aug 2026 tables, compiled by Partiu Rota and, for Nº1, by Aurora Cultural. The lot changes; the price that counts is the one at ticket selection.
The pricing logic repeats at nearly all of them: Série Ouro (Feb 5 and 6) is the cheapest night, Sunday and Monday sit in the middle, and Tuesday and the Champions’ Parade (Feb 13) are the priciest. At Lounge Carioca, for example, Friday goes for R$ 1,590 and Tuesday for R$ 3,290 (Oct 2026).
Which camarote to choose for your profile
Choose by what you want from the night, and only then by price. First-timers who want to watch the parades prefer mid-avenue sectors and camarotes with no show competing with the track; party people weigh the line-up more than the view.
| If you want… | Look first at | Why |
|---|---|---|
| To watch the parade | Lounge Viradouro (sector 4) or Camarote Nº1 (sector 2) | Viradouro has no side shows; Nº1 sits at the start of the track |
| Party and shows | Camarote Rio, Allegria, Camarote Mar | Line-up announced per night and a dance floor |
| To go with a child or teen | Lounge Carioca, Folia Tropical, Camisa 10 | Accept ages 5+ with a guardian; the rest are 18+ |
| To spend less | Série Ouro at camarotes selling Feb 5 and 6, or Lounge Viradouro | Friday or Saturday night costs about half of Tuesday |
A budget-balancing plan: grandstand one night and camarote another, or camarote only for Série Ouro, which is cheaper. Agree with your group beforehand, because the minimum age and transfer vary from one camarote to another.
What is and isn’t included in the camarote
A camarote ticket is a whole-night package: at most, open bar and open food from start to finish, restrooms in the area and round-trip transfer from a meeting point. What varies and weighs on your choice comes down to three items: the type of drinks, the transfer and the shows.
| Item | Included at most? | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Drinks | Yes, but varies by night | At Lounge Viradouro, Série Ouro has only water, beer and soda; spirits from Sunday on |
| Transfer | Yes, at nearly all | The departure point (Gávea, South Zone, West Zone) and the last return time; Allegria doesn’t mention transfer |
| Shows | Yes, except Lounge Viradouro | The line-up for your chosen night, released gradually |
| Seated spot | Usually not | The camarote is generally standing/mingling, with no assigned seats; check the page |
| Hotel and flights | No | No camarote includes lodging |
If the open bar or transfer falls short: what to do
Report the problem on the spot and keep evidence: photos of the empty bar, the line and the time, your ticket and the camarote page with what was promised. The company behind Camarote Rio Praia, unrelated to Camarote Rio, was ordered in the first instance to refund the ticket and pay moral damages, R$ 4,600 in total, to a 2026 Carnival reveler who complained of overcrowding and failures in transfer, food and drink; Liesa announced the camarote won’t return in 2027 (Diário do Rio).
After the party, complain first to the camarote and to Ticketmaster, in writing. If unresolved, file a report at consumidor.gov.br or Procon; the Small Claims Court (Juizado Especial Cível) accepts cases up to 20 minimum wages without a lawyer. Promised on the page and not delivered is a breach of offer under the Consumer Protection Code.
How to buy a camarote without falling for a scam
Buy only through the camarote’s official page on Ticketmaster: the ticket is named and lives in the app. “VIP list,” wristbands or QR codes sold over WhatsApp and paid by Pix to an individual are the most common Sapucaí scam, along with “last-minute” resale well below price. The warning signs and what to do are in the Carnival safety guide.
How to get to the camarote, back, and where to stay
With a camarote, the simplest route is the transfer: you go to the meeting point, usually in the South Zone or Gávea, and the bus drops you off and picks you up at the Sapucaí. Without transfer, take the metro to Praça Onze (even sectors) or Central do Brasil (odd sectors) and check your sector on the official Sambódromo map. On the way out, in the early hours, ride apps hit surge pricing and long waits: arrange pickup away from the blockades or go back by transfer.
Without transfer, Centro and Lapa pay off: they’re a few metro stops from the Sapucaí and walking distance from the daytime megablocos. Keep the next day light, because a camarote night ends in the morning.
| Base | Best for | Book |
|---|---|---|
| South Zone | Camarote with transfer, beach on days off | Between Copacabana and Ipanema: |
| Lapa and Centro | Going without transfer, by metro, and daytime blocos | In Lapa: |
The neighborhoods in detail, with hotel prices and the late-night ride back, are in the where to stay in Rio Carnival guide.
What to do on your days off during Carnival
Use the morning after the camarote to rest and the other days for the postcard sights. The Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf Mountain tour covers both in one morning, and the sunset sailboat cruise is a break before another night at the Sapucaí. Check whether the tour runs on Carnival days. The full festival schedule is in the Rio Carnival 2027 guide.
