Florianópolis is my beach pick for anyone who wants to fit water, walking and restaurants into two days. The region’s tourism portal describes summer as high beach season, with heat. Pick one area of the island per day; crossing from north to south several times eats up the weekend. A morning at the beach and an afternoon downtown already make the trip worthwhile, even with a brief rain shower.

A viewpoint visit works better when you can switch days if low clouds roll in. To cut costs, also compare hotels in Botafogo or Flamengo near the metro; a lower nightly rate can offset the transfer to the beach.
Foz do Iguaçu: the Falls in a short weekend
Foz do Iguaçu is the nature pick that fits into two days, as long as the Falls get Saturday’s best shift. Iguaçu National Park publishes attractions and hours; check the schedule for your date before buying tickets. February is hot, and the mist from the falls can cool you off, but bring water and clothes that dry fast. Gramado is the option for anyone who prefers mountains, cafés and walks over the beach. Buenos Aires is the two-day international escape for anyone who can get a direct flight and wants to walk through central neighborhoods. The city’s tourism site describes Recoleta as an area of architecture, shopping and cultural attractions; pair it with downtown and Avenida Corrientes in another shift. For two days, travel time weighs as much as the nightly rate. Florianópolis, Rio, Foz and Salvador have airports near the urban area, but the hotel may be far from the main attraction. Gramado requires a road trip after the flight; Buenos Aires requires considering which airport will receive your arrival. If you land late on Friday and fly back early Sunday, pick a base near what you want to do on Saturday.
A car works for anyone who lives relatively close to Florianópolis, Foz or Gramado; over long distances, add fuel, tolls and fatigue. For Rio and Salvador, bus or plane can be simpler than parking in a tourist area. Compare fares with carry-on luggage and actual arrival: a cheap flight that lands far away or late can cost you a day of sightseeing.
In Foz, the Itaipu visit can fill the second shift, as long as the time works with your return. Check tickets, transport and duration before squeezing two parks into Sunday. On a short trip, one well-done outing beats a list of transfers.
For Buenos Aires, your travel document and transfer should be sorted out before buying a Friday-night flight. If the international arrival eats up Saturday morning, the weekend no longer has two usable days of sightseeing.
When to book and what to avoid in February
Book once you know whether the trip will be during Carnival or after it. The difference between four nights of holiday and two nights on Feb 19–21 changes hotel, transport and vacation days needed. For post-Carnival, look for a cancellable room first and then compare flights; review the cancellation deadline at the time of purchase. Among the hotels quoted, the lowest rate showed up in Gramado, but the mountain transfer and flights can flip the total budget.

If you want the sea, Florianópolis was the cheapest coastal option in these quotes; Rio favors urban attractions and Salvador the mix of history and beach.
