For travel insurance at 70, 80 and 85, start with the plan’s age limit, not just the insurer’s name. In the official plan sheets we reviewed, Affinity 60 and Affinity 330 accept travelers up to age 85. At 70, both charge a 50% surcharge on the base rate; at 80, Affinity 60 lists 100% and Affinity 330 lists 150%; at 85, both list 300%. In practice: between 71 and 80, Affinity 60 (US$ 60,000 in medical expenses) has the smaller surcharge; those who want higher medical coverage choose Affinity 330 (US$ 330,000), which charges more in that bracket. Compare the final quoted price before you decide.
The comparison site Seguros Promo asks for your name, email and mobile number before showing prices. Without completing that sign-up, there’s no verifiable price in reais for the same trip across the five ages. The table below shows the surcharges each plan publishes, without turning a percentage into a made-up quote.

Which insurance should you consider at each age?
At 65 and 70, the two Affinity products we reviewed have the same published surcharge, but that doesn’t mean the same final price: coverage and base rates can differ. At 75 and 80, Affinity 60 has a smaller surcharge than Affinity 330. At 85, both still accept the age stated in their plan sheets, but the surcharge reaches 300%. The decision needs to look at the value of the medical coverage and the assistance rules, not just the percentage.

Travel insurance for seniors doesn’t have one universal maximum age. Each product sets its own limits and may change the rate by bracket. Assist Card, for example, states that limits and surcharges may apply but refers specific conditions to the quote; it’s not correct to assign a general maximum age to the brand. Check the plan sheet for the exact plan that appears in your results before comparing prices.
Who accepts 70, 80 and 85?
The plan sheets for Affinity 60 and Affinity 330 show a maximum age of 85 for these international products. That covers all five ages in our comparison, including the 85th birthday. The plan sheet for another product from the same insurer may have different rules; always check the full name and the limit shown in the proposal.
Assist Card states that limits and surcharges apply according to age and product, without publishing a single cap for all plans there. If it shows up in a quote, open that plan’s conditions and check up to what age it accepts the traveler on the trip date. Don’t confuse age acceptance with coverage quality: both need to be read before you pay.
How does the price rise with age?
The surcharge is calculated on the product’s base rate. It shows the direction of the increase, but it doesn’t reveal the final price in reais without the base rate for the same dates. The table compares the two official products, keeping destination and trip length as the criteria for a future quote.
| Age | Affinity 60 | Affinity 330 | Difference between plans (reviewed on 10/03/2026) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 65 | +50% over base | +50% over base | Same surcharge bracket |
| 70 | +50% over base | +50% over base | Same surcharge bracket |
| 75 | +100% over base | +150% over base | Affinity 330 rises more |
| 80 | +100% over base | +150% over base | Affinity 330 rises more |
| 85 | +300% over base | +300% over base | Same surcharge bracket |
Sources: rate conditions for Affinity 60 and Affinity 330. The percentages are not policy prices and don’t allow you to claim one product will have a lower total: the base rate and medical coverage can vary.

What changes after 80?
Going from 80 to 81, both Affinity products we reviewed move into another bracket: the published surcharge rises to 300% of the base rate up to age 85. That’s why the age on the trip start date can change the quote. Confirm the date of birth, the coverage period and the age limit on the receipt before paying.
High medical coverage alone doesn’t eliminate treatment restrictions, sublimits or claim procedures. Anyone over 80 should read carefully the coverage for emergency care, chronic illness, hospitalization and repatriation. If the proposal doesn’t show these conditions clearly, ask for the product’s general conditions before choosing on price alone.
Why isn’t there a single price in reais?
To compare 65, 70, 75, 80 and 85 fairly, you’d need to simulate the same ten-day trip to Europe, one person of each age, with the same dates and coverage. Seguros Promo asks for your name, email and mobile number before showing plans. Since sign-up is required to see the plans, this guide doesn’t include a price in reais; it includes the surcharges the official plan sheets publish. The table shows what the insurers state publicly: the age surcharges.
When you get a quote, keep destination, dates and medical coverage the same and change only the age. Note the exact plan name, the total price, the currency, the age limit and the exclusions. Only then compare the actual increase in reais. Also switching products between ages would mix the age variation with the coverage difference and lead to a wrong conclusion.
How much medical coverage should you look for?
SUSEP advises that international travel insurance offer medical, hospital and dental expenses for sudden and acute illness, without restricting care to accidents only. A cheap plan with low coverage can leave you more exposed during a prolonged hospital stay. Compare the insured amount, deductibles and per-event limits, not just the price.
As of October 2026, the Affinity 60 we reviewed lists medical expenses up to US$ 60,000 per event. That’s data from one specific plan, not standard coverage for the whole brand. For a trip covering more than one country, confirm whether the geographic area includes every stop. Also check how to request assistance, whether there’s direct payment to the network and in what situations you need to request reimbursement.

Pre-existing conditions and crises: read the policy
SUSEP Circular 667/2022 governs the declaration of pre-existing conditions and how they must be expressly excluded in the policy. In international medical coverage, an urgent or emergency crisis linked to a pre-existing or chronic illness must receive stabilization care up to the insured amount. That doesn’t equal unlimited continued treatment after stabilization.

Before paying, declare correctly whatever the form asks for and read the pre-existing conditions clause. Ask how the assistance provider decides whether a case is an emergency, which coverage applies and how to get authorization for care. If the traveler takes ongoing medication, bring prescriptions and enough supply for the trip; emergency insurance doesn’t replace planning for regular treatment.
Europe: the Schengen rule depends on the visa
As of October 2026, the EU Visa Code requires travel medical insurance of at least €30,000 for those applying for a uniform Schengen visa. Brazilians with an ordinary passport are visa-exempt for short-stay tourism and business under the EU–Brazil agreement; that visa application requirement shouldn’t be presented as a general entry obligation for this group. Insurance is still wise given medical costs.

How to buy in three steps
Start with the age the product accepts, then compare medical coverage and assistance conditions, and only last the price. That order keeps a cheap offer from being useless for the person traveling or for an illness that needs attention. Get a quote with the real trip details and save the proposal before paying.
- Filter by age and destination. Enter the date of birth, the ten-day period or the real dates and every country on the itinerary. Open the plan sheet for the selected plan.
- Read the medical conditions. Compare medical expense coverage, emergency care for pre-existing conditions, exclusions, deductibles and the assistance hotline.
- Compare the final price. Look at the total including the age surcharge and taxes; confirm the insured’s name, dates, policy and how to file a claim after purchase.

Save the policy, emergency contacts and payment receipt on your phone and in a format someone else on the trip can access. If the insurer changes the plan shown in the quote, go back to that product’s conditions: the maximum age and surcharge can’t be automatically transferred from one plan sheet to another.
At 70, compare products with the same coverage before using the 50% surcharge as your criterion. At 80, note the difference between 100% and 150% in the two plan sheets. At 85, confirm the product accepts you and check the final price after the 300% surcharge; if adequate medical coverage doesn’t appear, look for another proposal instead of cutting coverage just to fit your budget.

Frequently asked questions
Does travel insurance accept 85-year-olds?
Yes, some plans do. The official Affinity 60 and Affinity 330 plan sheets reviewed on 10/03/2026 indicate a maximum age of 85 and a 300% surcharge between 81 and 85 over the base rate.
How much does travel insurance cost at 80?
The final price depends on destination, dates, coverage and plan. Seguros Promo asks for your name, email and mobile number before showing a quote; without that step there’s no verifiable price in reais for the standard trip.
Are pre-existing conditions covered?
SUSEP Circular 667/2022 sets rules for declaration and express exclusion. In international insurance, medical coverage includes stabilization of an urgent or emergency crisis from a pre-existing condition up to the insured amount; read the policy conditions.
Do Brazilians need €30,000 insurance for Schengen tourism?
The €30,000 rule in the Visa Code applies to uniform visa applicants. Brazilian tourists who are visa-exempt for short stays don’t need to present that policy as a general entry condition, though insurance is recommended.
What changes after 80?
The age limit and surcharge can change by plan. In Affinity’s official examples, ages 81 to 85 have a 300% surcharge over the base rate, plus the need to check medical coverage and pre-existing condition terms.
