The 12/26/2026 departure is a different product: it rings in the New Year off Copacabana and costs double, from R$ 8,464 per person in an inside cabin on Logitravel (Oct 2026). The itinerary, party and prices for that date are in the guide to New Year’s Eve on the MSC Virtuosa. For Carnival, the Saturday departure on 02/06/2027 spends Fat Tuesday in Salvador; the comparison with the other ships is in the Carnival cruise departing from Santos.

Real total cost

The fare isn’t the final expense. For a couple driving down from São Paulo on the 12/05 departure, the bill with everything that has a published price comes to about R$ 4,360 per person (Oct 2026): R$ 8,048 for an inside cabin for two, R$ 40.60 in tolls on the descent through the mountains and around R$ 630 for parking at the terminal for 7 nights, using last season’s rate of R$ 90 per night. Drinks, internet and shore excursions are left out of the total, because MSC only shows those prices inside the booking.

Where does the MSC Virtuosa depart from and what are the itineraries?

The MSC Virtuosa sails a single 7-night loop along the Brazilian coast, Santos, Búzios, Salvador and Maceió, and you choose which of those three cities to board in: Santos on Saturdays, Salvador on Tuesdays and Maceió on Wednesdays. It’s the same ship; what changes is the day your week begins and ends.

Departing from Santos, the itinerary checked on Logitravel on 10/10/2026 is this:

DayPortTime
1 (Saturday)Santos (embarkation)departs at 5 pm
2Búzios9 am to 7 pm
3At seafull day at sea
4Salvador8 am to 5 pm
5Maceió9 am to 5 pm

Three days at sea out of seven nights is what defines the trip: half the time you’re on the ship, with no port call. If you love the pool and onboard programming, that’s the best part of the week; if you get seasick or want to explore cities, it’s the weak spot.

MaceióWednesday12/09/2026R$ 4,854 (Oct 2026)

If you live in the Northeast, you save the flight to Santos by boarding in Salvador (it departs at 5 pm and calls at Maceió, Santos and Búzios before returning) or in Maceió, on the Wednesday departure, from R$ 4,854 on 12/09/2026 (Oct 2026). In both cases, Santos becomes a one-day port call, from 6 am to 5 pm. The details of boarding in Bahia are in the guide to the cruise departing from Salvador.

What’s included in the price and what costs extra?

The MSC Virtuosa price includes the cabin, full board at the buffet and main restaurants, theater shows, themed parties and the service charge. Drinks (other than water, coffee and juice from the buffet machines), internet, specialty restaurants, spa, shore excursions and medical care cost extra.

The item that changes the bill the most is drinks. The Easy package (beer, house wine, classic cocktails, soda and juice) is charged per person per day, and everyone in the cabin has to buy it. In the 2026/27 season, MSC gives Easy for free in balcony cabins and suites on selected dates, capped at 50 cabins per departure (Oct 2026). Before paying for a balcony, it’s worth checking whether your date is in the promotion; the full rules are in the guide to the MSC drinks package.

What are the cabins like and which one is worth it?

The MSC Virtuosa has 2,421 cabins, 1,800 of them with balconies, split into inside, ocean view (with a window), balcony, Aurea suite and MSC Yacht Club. For a couple who spend the day out of the cabin, an inside works; on the itinerary’s three sea days, the balcony is what changes the experience most.

The prices that show up first in search are for the Bella experience, MSC’s most basic. The experiences above it cost more per cabin and add perks that vary from fare to fare; read what’s included before paying the difference. The gap between inside and balcony on the 12/12/2026 departure is R$ 1,350 per person (Oct 2026), or R$ 2,700 per couple.

The Yacht Club is a ship within a ship: cabins on the upper decks, its own restaurant and pool, a 24-hour butler and access to the spa’s thermal area. The smallest cabin in the area is the Interior Suite, at 17 m²; the largest, the Royal Suite, at 58 m², according to the ship’s fact sheet published by MSC.

Tip: the balcony cabin is the first to sell out on December and Carnival departures, and it’s the only one that may come with the promotion’s free drinks package. check the balconies available on the MSC Virtuosa.

What’s on board: pools, restaurants and attractions

The MSC Virtuosa has 4 pools, a water park with slides, 21 bars and 11 restaurants, according to the ship’s fact sheet on the MSC website. What’s unique to it in the Brazilian season is the Galleria Virtuosa, a covered corridor of shops and bars, and the robot bartender Rob at the MSC Starship Club.

Pools and water park

There are 4 pools, including the Atmosphere Pool, at around 1,700 m², and the Polar Aquapark, with four slides and the Himalayan Bridge, a walkway suspended over the sea. On sea days, the loungers near the outdoor pools are claimed early.

Restaurants and bars

The included food is at the Marketplace buffet and the main restaurants (Minuetto, Blue Danube and Il Campo). The specialty ones cost extra: Butcher’s Cut (steaks), Kaito (sushi and teppanyaki), Hola! Tacos & Cantina, Indochine (French-Vietnamese) and Sea Pavilion (Asian). Of the 21 bars, 16 are indoors and 5 are outdoors.

Shows, casino and kids

The Le Grand Théâtre hosts the evening shows, included in the price. The Carousel Lounge, with up to 400 seats, presents the productions that cost extra. There’s a casino, a virtual arcade, the Aurea spa and a gym. For kids, MSC has clubs in partnership with the LEGO Group and the Baby Club for the youngest. The {i(“cruzeiro-com-crianca”, “guide to cruising with kids and babies”)} explains who pays and the minimum age.

What documents do you need to board?

Since the MSC Virtuosa stays in Brazil only, MSC accepts a Brazilian ID (RG), passport or driver’s license to board. The digital driver’s license is only valid if shown through the official app, not as a screenshot, according to MSC’s documents page.

Minors under 18 traveling without both parents need written authorization with a notarized signature. Carry all documents in your carry-on: checked luggage only reaches the cabin hours after boarding. The full list, with what changes on international itineraries, is in the guide to cruise documents.

Pregnant women cannot board if they are 23 weeks and 6 days or more on any day of the cruise and must bring a doctor’s note. Babies under 2 board normally, because MSC’s limit applies only to cruises of 11 nights or more. There’s no age limit for seniors; anyone using a wheelchair should request an accessible cabin at booking.

Tip: on Brazil-only itineraries, care at the ship’s medical center costs extra and the public health system doesn’t work on board; insurance with medical and cancellation coverage handles both ends. get a travel insurance quote.

How do you get to the embarkation port in Santos?

The MSC Virtuosa departs from the Concais terminal, at Av. Cândido Gaffrée s/n, in Santos, with entry through Gate 6. Check-in closes 2 hours before the 5 pm departure, that is, at 3 pm, according to MSC’s boarding rules.

From São Paulo, the route is via Imigrantes or Anchieta, with a toll of R$ 40.60 for a car (Oct 2026). The terminal’s official parking lot is at Gate 6 and cost R$ 90 per night in the 2025/26 season; the 2026/27 rate hasn’t been published yet. The step-by-step, with the light rail, buses and walking access, is in the guide to the port of Santos for cruises.

Is it worth sleeping in Santos the night before?

For those arriving by plane or from far away, yes. The flight to São Paulo, plus the drive down the mountains on Saturday morning, leaves little margin for the 3 pm check-in, and a delay on the Imigrantes on a summer weekend is common. Sleeping in Santos on Friday, you reach the terminal with no rush and can even have lunch in the city.

What time to arrive at the terminal

The e-ticket gives you an individual check-in time; arriving earlier won’t speed up boarding. Bags are checked at the terminal entrance and reach the cabin in the late afternoon, so carry documents, medication, swimwear and whatever you’ll use in your first hours on board in your carry-on.

Is it worth it? Who it’s for and who it isn’t

The MSC Virtuosa is worth it for anyone who wants a week along the Northeast without a passport, on a big ship, with plenty of options on board and the service charge already paid. It’s not worth it for those who get seasick easily or want to spend more time ashore than at sea.

Compared with the MSC Seaview, the other big ship of the season in Santos, the Virtuosa is larger (181,541 versus about 154,000 tons) and stays in Brazil only; the Seaview goes to Buenos Aires and Punta del Este and requires an ID or passport. In the same price range, the choice comes down to destination: Northeast or the Plata region. The MSC vs. Costa comparison helps those who haven’t decided on a cruise line yet.

Who it’s for

Couples and groups of friends who want to try cruising with a full week; families with kids, for the water park and kids’ clubs; those who live in the Northeast and can board in Salvador or Maceió without a flight; anyone who wants to pay everything in reais and in installments.

Who it isn’t for

Anyone who gets seasick easily, because the itinerary has three sea days, two of them back to back on the return; the guide to seasickness on a cruise shows which cabin feels the motion least. It’s also not for those who want a quiet ship: with more than 6,000 guests, the pool, buffet and theater fill up at peak times. And anyone who wants to really get to know Salvador or Maceió will find the 8 or 9 hours in port short.

Conclusion

For most couples, the best buy is the inside cabin from Santos on 12/05 or 12/12/2026, from R$ 4,024 per person (Oct 2026), saving the balcony difference for the drinks package. Those who live in the Northeast gain a day and the flight by boarding in Salvador or Maceió. For New Year’s on the ship, the right date is 12/26, in the New Year’s Eve guide. The other ships of the season are in the guide to cruises departing from Santos.

Before booking, check three things in the reservation: whether your date is in the drinks promotion, the cancellation penalty of the fare you chose and the check-in time on the e-ticket. With that sorted, all that’s left is deciding which port to board in and how many sea days you want to enjoy by the pool or at the ship’s spa.
