What is Alegría – In a New Light?

It’s a reimagining of Alegría, one of Cirque du Soleil’s most beloved shows. The original production was seen by more than 14 million people in 255 cities between 1994 and 2013, and the soundtrack, featuring the famous title track, was nominated for a Grammy in 1995. Brazil knows the story well: Alegría toured the country in 2006 and 2007 and paved the way for seven other productions by the company here.

The new version premiered in 2019 and has already been seen by more than 4 million people. It keeps the melodies and the baroque universe but swaps out the stage direction, the acrobatic acts and the visuals. The plot revolves around a kingdom that has lost its king: the court jester tries to seize the throne while the youth, in the streets, demand change. There are 54 artists from 18 countries, including Brazil, under a tent 51 meters in diameter with 2,525 seats.

The Brazilian tour is produced by IMM, with sponsorship from EQI Investimentos. The official hotel network is ALL Accor.

How much do Alegría tickets cost and which section should you choose?

There are five sections, from closest to farthest from the ring: VIP Experience, Premium, Gold, Platinum and Silver. Each has a cheaper partial-view version, with part of the stage blocked. In São Paulo, Wednesday and Thursday are cheaper than Friday through Sunday.

The cheapest option (Oct 2026) is the partial-view Silver on a Wednesday or Thursday in São Paulo: R$ 396 full price and R$ 198 half-price. In Curitiba, the partial-view Silver shows up at R$ 454.50 full price and R$ 227.25 half-price on the purchase map. Children aged 2 to 12 pay half-price with ID, and those up to 2 years old get in free on the lap of a paying adult.

Which section is the best value?

Gold is the sweet spot for those who want a good view of the aerial acts without paying Premium prices. Platinum and Silver are farther away, but the tent is circular and compact, so they still work for families on a tighter budget. VIP Experience is Premium plus a R$ 490 package (Oct 2026) with parking, a cocktail before the show and during intermission, private restrooms and a gift; this add-on has no half-price option.

There’s a service fee online. To skip it, buy at the physical box office: in São Paulo, inside Parque Villa-Lobos, every day from 11 am to 7 pm; in Curitiba, at Pátio Batel through 11/15 and at Expotrade from 11/16 to 12/13. Official sales are only through Eventim (buy tickets); avoid resellers.

How do you get to the Alegría tent at Parque Villa-Lobos?

The Big Top is in Bolsão B of Parque Villa-Lobos, with access via Av. Queiroz Filho, 1,315, in Vila Hamburguesa, on the west side of the city. The season runs through November 8 (Sunday), and the venue opens one hour before each show. Wednesday and Thursday there’s a 8 pm show; Friday and Saturday, 4 pm and 8 pm (with an extra noon show on some Saturdays); Sunday, 3 pm and 7 pm.

By public transit, the reference point is Villa Lobos–Jaguaré station on CPTM’s Line 9-Emerald, next to Marginal Pinheiros; the tent is on the opposite side of the park, on Queiroz Filho, so count on a walk through the park. At night, when a 2,525-person show lets out, a ride app or taxi is usually more practical; agree on the pickup point on Queiroz Filho before you go in. The organizers haven’t announced parking open to the general public or its price; only the VIP package includes a spot.

If you’re coming from out of town, there are two approaches. Pinheiros and Alto de Pinheiros are just a few minutes by car from the tent and have bars and restaurants for after the show. To spend less, a hotel near the metro is worth it, using a ride app only for the final leg; our guide to cheap hotels in São Paulo near the metro helps with that choice.

Tip: the 8 pm show ends around 10:15 pm; staying in Pinheiros shortens the trip back and avoids the ride-app queue at the park exit. See hotels in Pinheiros.

How does Alegría work in Curitiba, at Expotrade?

In Curitiba, the tent is at Expotrade, on Rod. Dep. João Leopoldo Jacomel, 10,454, Vila Amélia, in Pinhais, in the metropolitan region east of the capital. The season runs from November 19 to December 13. The schedule is almost the same as São Paulo’s, with one difference: Wednesday and Thursday shows start at 9 pm. Saturday has an extra 12:30 pm show on specific dates.

Expotrade has no metro or train nearby, so the simplest route is by car or ride app from downtown, Batel or Cabral. Curitiba’s price table doesn’t separate weekdays from weekends. To choose your base for the trip, see where to stay in Curitiba; Batel concentrates hotels, restaurants and the mall where the fee-free box office operates through 11/15. If you’re staying longer, compare hotels in Batel with free cancellation.

What’s the minimum age and how long does Alegría last?

There’s no minimum age: the show is rated for all ages, but children under 12 only enter with their parents or legal guardians. Kids up to 2 years old get in free, as long as they stay on a lap. The show runs 2h15, with a 25-minute intermission. The Cirque du Soleil website warns that there are loud noises, dark scenes and flashing lights, something to keep in mind for sensitive children and people with photosensitive epilepsy.

Glass bottles, cans, alcoholic beverages, coolers, selfie sticks, tripods and power banks larger than a phone are not allowed. There’s a section for wheelchair users and companions, a reduced-mobility section (with documentation) and marked seats for people with disabilities.

What to do before or after the show?

In São Paulo, the afternoon show leaves the morning free to explore the city with a guide; the panoramic tour covers the historic center, Paulista and Ibirapuera in just a few hours.
