Europe to Brazil by Ship: Costa Diadema and MSC 2027 Repositioning Cruises

🇧🇷 POR | 🇺🇸 EN | 🇪🇸 ES

A Europe-to-Brazil cruise crossing is the repositioning voyage where the ship leaves the Mediterranean in the European autumn to start the Brazilian season. In 2026, the cheapest one we checked is the MSC Virtuosa, from R$ 5,655 (Oct/2026), 17 days departing from Barcelona; the Costa Diadema does 21 days to Santos. For 2027 there are the MSC Grand Voyages.

2026 departuresCosta Diadema 11/3 (Barcelona), MSC Splendida 11/15 and MSC Virtuosa 11/16 (Barcelona), checked on Logitravel
Duration15 to 23 days, with 6 to 9 consecutive days at sea
Pricefrom R$ 5,655 per person in an inside cabin (Oct/2026)
ArrivalSantos, Rio or Itajaí, depending on the ship
Documentvalid passport; for each port of call, confirm on the cruise line’s website
Flightone-way only, Brazil → Europe, before embarkation
Cancellationfare rules: confirm on the cruise line’s website before paying
2027 departuresMSC Divina 10/29/2027 (Civitavecchia) and MSC Musica 11/06/2027 (Genoa)

The math is simple: instead of paying for a round-trip flight plus a cruise, you fly one-way, board in Spain and come home by ship, with stops in the Iberian Peninsula, the Canary Islands and Northeast Brazil before disembarking in Santos.

Which Europe-to-Brazil ship crossings exist in 2026 and 2027?

For November 2026, Logitravel sells four departures from Barcelona: two on the Costa Diadema (to Santos or to Itajaí), one on the MSC Virtuosa and one on the MSC Splendida. For 2027, MSC announced the Grand Voyages, with the MSC Divina and MSC Musica leading the pack.

In 2027, according to the sales-opening announcement published by Cruise Industry News, the MSC Divina departs Civitavecchia (Rome’s port) on 10/29/2027, with 18 nights, calling at Barcelona, Salvador, Ilhéus and Ilha Grande before Santos. The MSC Musica departs Genoa on 11/06/2027, with 17 nights, calling at Marseille, Valencia and Funchal. Price and arrival date for these departures: to be confirmed on MSC’s website, since they aren’t in Logitravel’s system yet.

Which port does the cruise leave from and how do I get to embarkation?

All four 2026 departures sold in reais board in Barcelona, at the cruise terminal of the Port of Barcelona, just a few kilometers from Las Ramblas. Costa usually opens the same voyage at earlier ports, such as Savona and Marseille; those who buy on Logitravel board in Barcelona on 11/3.

That’s why different dates show up for the same ship: the Costa Diadema’s full itinerary starts days earlier in the northern Mediterranean, and each port has its own embarkation date. If you read “Diadema leaving Savona on the 1st,” it’s not a mistake; it’s another entry point on the same crossing, at another price. Confirmation of embarkation in Savona or Marseille is handled on Costa’s website. From El Prat airport to the terminal, count on a taxi, transfer or bus to the port area; arriving a day early is safest, because a delayed flight won’t hold the ship.

How much does it cost and what’s included in the price?

The cheapest crossing we checked costs R$ 5,655 per person on the MSC Virtuosa (Oct/2026), in a double inside cabin, versus R$ 7,211 on the Costa Diadema to Santos (from R$ 14,074, Oct/2026). Broken down by day, that’s between R$ 330 and R$ 550 per person per day with meals included.

The “from” price covers the cabin, full board in the main restaurant and buffet, shows, pools and gym. Usually not included: the daily service charge, drinks package, internet, specialty restaurants, shore excursions and the flight to Europe. Exact service charge and package amounts vary by cruise line and fare: confirm on the cruise line’s website before booking.

ItemIncluded?Note

Real total cost: add the fare (R$ 5,655 to R$ 8,614 per person, Oct/2026), the daily service charge for every day on board, the one-way flight, one night in a Barcelona hotel and drinks. On a long voyage, the service charge and drinks package can add up to a big chunk of the fare, so compare the final price at Logitravel‘s checkout, not just the “from” price.

Which cabin should I choose?

On a crossing, the cabin matters more than on a short cruise: it’s 15 to 23 nights, several of them with no land in sight. Inside is the cheapest; oceanview shows the sea; balcony gives you private open air on sea days, and it’s the category that makes the biggest difference on a long voyage.

TypeBest forWatch out for
Insidethose who spend the day out of the cabinno natural light for three weeks
Oceanviewthose who want to see the sea without paying for a balconywindow doesn’t open
Balconycouples and sea-day loverssells out first
Suitethose who want service and spaceprice on request

Those prone to seasickness usually do better in a cabin midship and on lower decks, where the rocking is milder. The stretch between the Canary Islands and Northeast Brazil is the longest without a port of call, and that’s where the Atlantic makes itself felt.

Tip: on a crossing, balcony cabins are the first to sell out, and it’s precisely the sea days that make them worth it; check the Costa Diadema cabins.

What documents do I need to board?

To board in Europe, Brazilians need a valid passport; an ID card won’t do, because you enter the Schengen area by plane and the ship calls at foreign ports. Brazilians don’t need a visa for short tourist stays in Spain and Portugal.

Pay attention to ports of call outside Europe: Mindelo (Cape Verde), on the Costa Diadema, and Casablanca (Morocco), on the MSC Splendida, have their own entry rules. The requirements for each port of call and the minimum passport validity are in the cruise line’s conditions: confirm on the cruise line’s website and with Itamaraty before traveling. Also bring your international vaccination card, which some ports require.

Tip: a visit to the ship’s medical center is charged separately and is expensive, and the public health system covers nothing outside Brazil; over three weeks away from home, insurance makes a difference. get a travel insurance quote.

How do I handle the one-way flight to Europe?

You only buy the outbound leg: São Paulo or another capital to Barcelona, ideally arriving a day before embarkation. A one-way ticket sometimes costs almost the same as a round trip, so it’s worth researching in advance and using miles on FlipMilhas.

Those entering the Schengen area with a one-way ticket may be questioned at immigration: bring a printed copy of your cruise confirmation, which is your proof of leaving Europe. A connecting flight through Lisbon or Madrid also works; leave hours of buffer between arrival and embarkation, because the ship won’t wait for a late passenger.

What are the days at sea like on a crossing?

A sea day is a full day on board, with no port of call: on the Costa Diadema and MSC Virtuosa, the jump from the Canary Islands (or Cape Verde) to Salvador takes several consecutive days of open ocean. The ship schedules lectures, classes, shows, games and the equator-crossing party.

Internet drops and gets expensive in the middle of the Atlantic, the time zone changes one hour at a time (the ship’s clock goes back some nights) and the crowd tends to be older and calmer than on short coastal cruises. Bring a book, motion sickness medicine and light cold-weather clothes: November in Europe is already autumn.

Is it worth it? Who it’s for and who it isn’t

It’s worth it for those with three free weeks, who enjoy being on a ship and want to combine Europe and the trip home in a single voyage, at the per-day price of a short cruise. It’s not worth it for those prone to seasickness, with little vacation time or who want to explore cities at a leisurely pace.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cancellation and refund policy?

It depends on the fare and the cruise line: promotional fares usually have increasing penalties closer to departure. Read the conditions at checkout and confirm on the cruise line’s website before paying.

Are there restrictions for children, seniors or pregnant travelers?

There’s no age limit for seniors; infants and pregnant travelers have their own rules on minimum age and weeks of pregnancy, which the cruise line requires at embarkation. Confirm on the cruise line’s website.

How long does the Europe–Brazil crossing last?

Between 15 and 23 days on the November 2026 departures checked in Oct/2026: 15 on the MSC Splendida, 17 on the MSC Virtuosa, 21 or 23 on the Costa Diadema.

Is the Brazil–Europe crossing the same trip?

It’s the reverse route, at the end of the Brazilian season: in April 2027 the Costa Diadema departs Santos for Kiel, Germany, over 26 nights.
