New Year’s Eve in Venice 2027 already has paid dinners from €275 and a concert at La Fenice. For the 2025/26 turnover, the public fireworks went off at midnight over St. Mark’s Basin, in front of the Arsenale; the city notice usually comes out in late November. Choose a hotel in the historic center with the walk back in mind, and keep party tickets separate from room reservations.

Free New Year’s Eve in Venice: what’s been announced?
2026 edition For the 2025/26 turnover, the city announced fireworks at midnight on 12/31/2025, lighting up St. Mark’s Basin on the Arsenale side, with the best views near the ACTV Arsenale stop and along the Schiavoni, Ca’ di Dio, San Biagio and Sette Martiri waterfronts. For the ride home, Trenitalia ran 16 extra trains leaving Venezia Santa Lucia after midnight, toward Mestre, Padua, Treviso, Verona, Rovigo, Conegliano, Portogruaro and Castelfranco. The 2025/26 notice came out on 11/24/2025; the 2026/27 one should come out around the same time, and we’ll update here once it’s published.
We’re talking about the turnover from December 31, 2026 to January 1, 2027. Before heading out to the waterfront, look for the updated notice from the Comune di Venezia. For a trip booked now, choose a plan that also works with dinner, a walk and rest in case the public schedule changes.

Where to watch the fireworks over St. Mark’s Basin?
The decisive factor is an open view of the basin, not being inside St. Mark’s Square. In the 2025/26 city announcement, the spots listed were Riva degli Schiavoni, Riva Ca’ di Dio, Riva San Biagio and Riva dei Sette Martiri. The city warned that the fireworks that year were not visible from the Piazza or the Piazzetta San Marco.
St. Mark’s Square and St. Mark’s Basin are different places. The square sits among the monumental buildings; the basin is the water area in front of the waterfront. When choosing a hotel, look at the relationship between the address, the waterfront and the walk back. A “canal view” description may mean a narrow canal far from the launch area.
Riva degli Schiavoni and Castello
The string of waterfronts runs from the Doge’s Palace area toward the Arsenale and the Giardini, on the Castello side. That’s where the viewing points indicated for the 2025/26 turnover were. Don’t count on access to a specific stretch just because it was open the year before: barriers, circulation and crowding depend on that night’s operations.
Terraces, rooms and boats
To pay for a private view, ask for the exact location of the room or terrace and its orientation toward the basin. Book the category that offers that view; a hotel facade facing the water doesn’t mean every room has it. A dinner on a boat needs to state boarding, disembarkation, route and whether staying in the basin at midnight is included.
The map and notice from the 2025/26 edition didn’t state the fireworks duration or a stage with a show; be wary of any package promising a guaranteed spot on the waterfront.
San Marco and Castello are bases for organizing the walk back from the waterfront, depending on your hotel’s address. See hotels in Venice for 12/30 to 01/02
Which paid parties and dinners are confirmed?
There are two dinners with an explicit date for December 31, 2026: Carlton on the Grand Canal and Metropole. They’re paid programs independent of the city show. At the Carlton, the early rate is from €275 per person until 10/31; the published regular price is €305, as of Oct/2026.

Official dinner prices checked in Oct/2026. In the official Metropole program, the music is by the duo Giulia Poloni and Francesco Carlon, with a performance by Kjarisha. The room is not included in these tickets. The Carlton publishes a refund for cancellations notified by 12/20/2026; after that date, payment is non-refundable and non-transferable to other reservations. Confirm allergies and menu adaptations before paying.

How do you get back after midnight?
The simplest way back is to walk to a hotel in the historic center, with the route chosen during the day. If you’re staying in Giudecca, Lido or Mestre, you depend on a boat or the connection to the mainland. For Mestre and the Veneto, the most concrete reference is the train: on the 2025/26 turnover, 16 extra regional trains left Santa Lucia after midnight.
ACTV reports an N night network roughly between midnight and 5 am. That describes the usual network; it doesn’t guarantee frequency, boarding point or capacity on New Year’s Eve. Check the schedule search by date and the navigation notices close to your trip and again the night before.
San Marco or Castello: walking back
Save the address and route on your phone and identify the bridges before the party. On the way out, following the crowd without knowing where you’re going can take you to the station when your hotel is in the opposite direction. Agree on a meeting point away from a bridge or landing stage, keep the group together and leave room to walk slowly.

Mestre, Lido and Giudecca: plan the whole connection
For Mestre, getting to Piazzale Roma or Santa Lucia only solves the first leg; you still need to confirm the bus or train and the final stretch to the hotel. For Lido and Giudecca, check the stop, the line, the direction and the ticket validity. Special boat and train schedules for New Year’s usually come out during Christmas week.
The standard navigation ticket costs €9.50 for 75 minutes; the 24h, 48h and 72h passes cost €25, €35 and €45, respectively, as of Oct/2026. The official AVM table states that Marco Polo airport is outside these standard tickets. Validate your ticket at every boarding.
Where to stay for New Year’s Eve in Venice?
For a first New Year’s in Venice, San Marco or Castello reduce your dependence on boats after midnight. Santa Croce favors arrival by train and the Carlton dinner; Cannaregio is an alternative for those willing to walk longer to the basin. The exact address matters more than the neighborhood name.
San Marco brings together the square and the La Fenice area. Castello stretches toward the Arsenale side, but not every address in the sestiere is near the waterfront. Santa Croce sits in the city’s land-access sector. Cannaregio is north of the historic center: book there for the combination of room, price and route, without expecting an automatic view of the fireworks.

The selection below was checked for two adults and three nights, from 12/30/2026 to 01/02/2027, on Booking in Oct/2026. All ten hotels showed a price and more than a hundred reviews. Prices change by room and policy; breakfast or free cancellation only apply when they’re part of the chosen rate.

A dinner at the Carlton adds €550 for the couple at the early rate or €610 at the regular rate; at the Metropole, €1,380 for the couple (Oct/2026). If you take two vaporetto rides per person, round trip for the couple totals €38 at the standard fare. Keep expenses in euros separate from quotes in reais and consider the card’s effective exchange rate on the day of payment.
How do you get to Venice and to your hotel?
The main airport is Marco Polo, connected to Venice and Mestre by ACTV/ATVO buses and to Venice and the islands by Alilaguna. If you arrive by train to the historic center, head for Venezia Santa Lucia; Venezia Mestre is the station on the mainland. Your choice changes the final stretch to the hotel.
The Venice airport reports ATVO express buses with no intermediate stops to Venice and Mestre, plus local ACTV services. Alilaguna boats serve Venice, Murano, Burano, Lido and Certosa. For a room near a landing stage, the boat can simplify the trip with luggage; check which stop actually serves your address.
Land taxis have a published fare of €40 to Piazzale Roma and €35 to Mestre Centro (Oct/2026, airport). It’s not a water taxi and won’t drop you at the door of a hotel in San Marco. AVM publishes the Aerobus at €10 one way or €18 round trip; the combined Aerobus + boat costs €18 per trip.
Compare a transfer to your hotel by final destination, luggage and vehicle type. For your flight, the flight search to Venice opens with VCE; adjust your departure city and dates.
Arriving on 12/30 leaves a day to learn the route from the hotel to the waterfront, find the restaurant and buy the tickets you need. To continue your trip through Italy, see the Rome, Florence and Venice by train itinerary. Avoid booking a tight connection the morning after the party.
What to do on January 1st?
The program already confirmed for January 1, 2027 is La Fenice’s Concerto di Capodanno, at 11:15 am, with Gianandrea Noseda. There are also performances on 12/29 at 8 pm, 12/30 at 5 pm and 12/31 at 4 pm. The 12/31 performance takes place in the afternoon and lets you combine theater and dinner.
The official 2026/27 price list distinguishes seats with a view, reduced visibility and hearing only. On 01/01, hearing-only seats in the gallery/loggione start at €50; the stalls cost €550. On 12/31, those categories cost €40 and €400, respectively (Oct/2026). Seeing the lowest price doesn’t mean finding a seat with a view of the stage.
For 01/01, La Fenice limits purchases to four seats per buyer. Sales have been open since 02/24/2026. Check availability at the box office the theater links to before planning the rest of your morning: a published price list doesn’t guarantee a seat in that section.
For museums, the Doge’s Palace publishes regular winter hours of 9 am to 6 pm, last entry at 5 pm. The Museo Correr lists 10 am to 5 pm, last entry at 4 pm. Both advise checking for extraordinary changes; holiday hours are usually published in December.
If you want a light day, leave the morning for an unhurried coffee and a short walk near the hotel. For a restaurant, check whether there will be holiday service and a holiday menu instead of relying on the weekly hours. Schedule museums and tours for 01/02 when you need more leeway, confirming each attraction’s calendar.
How to spend New Year’s Eve with kids?
With kids, the main decision is balancing sleep schedule, cold and getting around. At the Carlton, there’s a children’s menu for ages 0 to 12 for €60, with water and a soft drink, as of Oct/2026. That makes the dinner an identified option for families; confirm high chairs, allergies and duration before booking.
A night on the waterfront means staying outdoors and walking back over bridges and streets with other people. For a small child, choose a hotel near the stretch where you plan to stay, bring protection against cold and noise and set a departure time. A stroller can help during the day, but bridges with steps make the route harder.
At the Metropole, the page announces the dinner and the adult price, but doesn’t publish a children’s rate or minimum age. Ask for those conditions before paying. For the concert, book individual seats according to the box office rule; the four-seat limit on January 1 may affect larger families’ purchases.
How to plan an accessible New Year’s Eve?
Accessibility in Venice has to be planned across the landing stage, the route and the room, since an adapted accommodation doesn’t solve the bridges along the way. ACTV allows use of navigation in prepared spaces. Coordinate with the hotel the disembarkation point and the conditions of the entrance, elevator and bathroom.
There’s a specific rule at Rialto: after 8:19 pm, until the end of service, wheelchair users can request boarding at stops A/B instead of C/D by calling 800845065, at least 20 minutes in advance. To disembark at A/B, the operator advises asking the onboard staff for the extra stop.
Don’t treat an old route with temporary ramps as guaranteed for December 2026. Check the current conditions of the bridges you’ll use and, when a public event is announced, whether accessible space and restrooms exist. Prefer a plan where you can return to the hotel without depending on crossing the whole city.
What’s the weather like in Venice at New Year’s?
December and January are winter in the Veneto climate calendar, according to the ARPAV Climate Atlas. Plan layered clothing for being outdoors by the water: coat, wind protection, hat, gloves and shoes with grip. The useful forecast for the night will be the one issued close to your trip.
An elegant-dress dinner calls for party clothes, but the route there is still outdoors. Choose shoes that work for walking and an outer layer you can leave at the restaurant. For kids, a dry change of clothes and breaks in a heated space help organize the night.
Fog and tides can affect navigation. ACTV notices need to be followed along with the forecast and information from the city’s Centro Maree. Avoid depending on a tight last connection and have a dinner alternative near the hotel if getting around becomes difficult.
Which precautions prevent travel problems?
The costliest mistakes are booking a view without checking the category, assuming dinner is included with the room and choosing distant lodging without solving the trip back. Compare the full reservation, not just the nightly rate. These checks should be done before buying a non-refundable ticket.
- A booked room is not a dinner ticket. At the Carlton, confirm both reservations; at the Metropole, confirm the package you chose.
- A canal view isn’t the same as a view of St. Mark’s Basin. Ask for the orientation and a photo of the room category.
- Check the boarding address for any dinner on a boat. A regular navigation service doesn’t prove a New Year’s program.
- Straight-line distance doesn’t describe the walking route over bridges. Check the path to the hotel entrance.
- A vaporetto ticket and an airport transfer are different products. Check validity, coverage and whether you need to validate again.
To buy insurance, compare medical care, luggage and trip interruption, with limits and exclusions. The travel insurance comparison for Italy helps you choose coverage; read the conditions for your profile and length of stay.
Which tours pair well with the stay?
Boat tours to the islands and visits to the historic center can fill 12/30 or 01/02, without competing with the dinner night. For January 1, the date needs to show as available on the product calendar. An attraction ticket or regular tour doesn’t give access to a New Year’s Eve party.

If you’re going to La Fenice on 01/01, don’t squeeze in an excursion that depends on boarding far from the theater that same morning. A tour on the 2nd leaves the holiday freer and lets you adjust the program to the weather. Compare duration and return point so you don’t jeopardize a train or flight you’ve already bought.

Frequently asked questions
Will there be fireworks in Venice for New Year’s Eve 2027?
Fireworks are a tradition: on the 2025/26 turnover, they went off at midnight over St. Mark’s Basin, in front of the Arsenale. The 2026/27 notice should come out in late November (the previous one came out on 11/24/2025); we’ll update here once it’s published.
Is St. Mark’s Square the best place to see the fireworks?
In the 2025/26 city notice, the city warned that the fireworks were not visible from the Piazza or the Piazzetta San Marco. It indicated the Schiavoni, Ca’ di Dio, San Biagio and Sette Martiri waterfronts. For 2027, the spots depend on the new official map.
How much does a New Year’s Eve dinner in Venice cost?
As of Oct/2026, the Carlton advertises dinner from €275 per adult until 10/31 and €305 at the regular rate; the Metropole publishes €690 per adult. The amounts are for programs on 12/31/2026 and don’t automatically include a room. Check the offer conditions before paying.
Is it better to stay in Venice or Mestre for New Year’s Eve?
To spend the night near St. Mark’s Basin and walk back, choose Venice’s historic center, especially suitable addresses in San Marco or Castello. Mestre requires solving the return to the mainland and the final stretch to the hotel. On the 2025/26 turnover, 16 extra trains left Santa Lucia after midnight, including to Mestre; the 2026/27 plan usually comes out during Christmas week.
What’s already confirmed in Venice for January 1, 2027?
La Fenice has confirmed the Concerto di Capodanno at 11:15 a.m. on 01/01/2027, with Gianandrea Noseda. Museums publish their regular winter hours, and holiday schedules usually come out in December on each museum’s website.
Which plan should you choose for the big night?
If your priority is an evening with dinner and music already lined up, compare Carlton and Metropole and sort out your accommodation together with the dinner reservation. If you prefer celebrating outdoors, choose a hotel with a workable route back and flexible terms, and use the waterfront between Schiavoni and Sette Martiri, which was the viewing spot for the 2025/26 New Year’s Eve, until the 2026/27 announcement comes out.
To include the January 1st concert, plan your morning around La Fenice and buy the right seat category. Then leave room for the city’s rhythm and the weather. Voyage Voyage brings the information for these choices together in one trip.
