🇧🇷 POR | 🇺🇸 EN | 🇪🇸 ES

Free New Year’s Eve in São Sebastião: DJ and fireworks on 12 beaches

Free · no ticket

You can ring in the new year in Maresias without spending a dime: in the 2025/26 edition, São Sebastião City Hall set up public parties on 12 beaches, with a DJ from 9 pm to 2 am and silent fireworks on 10 of them, including Maresias.

The rollover from December 31, 2025 to January 1, 2026 was decentralized: instead of one big stage, each beach had its own party spot. In Maresias, the spot was Praça Internacional do Surf, with DJ Cidy and a fireworks show. The Tourism Department (Setur) expected around 500,000 people in town and hotel occupancy above 90% (Vale 360 News, Dec 20, 2025). 2025/26 edition

For the rollover from December 31, 2026 to January 1, 2027, the city hasn’t announced the format yet. Last edition, the schedule only came out on December 19 and 20, so expect the same timing.

The 2025/26 list helps you pick your beach. On the South Coast, where Maresias and its neighboring beaches are, there were DJs and fireworks at Paúba, Maresias, Boiçucanga (Praça Pôr do Sol), Barra do Una (near Capela Nossa Senhora do Carmo) and Boracéia (near Alameda Mauá); Toque-Toque Pequeno had fireworks only. In the central and north areas, the party was at Enseada, Arrastão, Centro (Rua da Praia) and Barequeçaba, with fireworks, and at Cigarras and São Francisco, with DJ only.

Tip: in the 2025/26 edition the Maresias party was at Praça Internacional do Surf and Parador is on the same avenue, so anyone staying in the neighborhood walks there and back without hitting Rio-Santos at night. See hotels in Maresias for Dec 30 to Jan 2.

Paid parties on New Year’s Eve in Maresias: Parador and open bar

Paid · from R$ 655.50

Maresias is the paid-party beach of the north coast. As of Oct 2026, the one already selling tickets for 2027 was Parador Maresias, with a four-day package and premium open bar on New Year’s Eve night.

The Réveillon Parador Maresias 2027 On sale for 2027 is a package: it gives access on Dec 28, with Mochakk; Dec 29, with Illusionize; Dec 30, with Liu, always from 4 pm; and Dec 31, from 10 pm, with Ashibah and Bruno Be. Where to watch the fireworks in Maresias and nearby beaches

In Maresias, the official fireworks spot last New Year’s Eve was Praça Internacional do Surf, in the middle of the waterfront. The beach is about 4 km long; anyone at either end can still see the show, but from afar.

São Sebastião’s fireworks are silent, with less noise for sensitive people and animals. The city didn’t disclose how long the 2025/26 show lasted. The choice for silence has history: on the 2023 to 2024 rollover, the fireworks hired by the city sparked a fire on Morro do Guaecá, only brought under control at 3:57 am, with no injuries (Folha Vitória, Jan 2, 2024).

Juquehy, another popular South Coast beach, had no official spot on the 2025/26 list. Anyone staying there who wants official fireworks needs to head to Barra do Una, its neighbor to the south, or Boiçucanga, to the north, and drive back along Rio-Santos in the early hours.

Traffic on Rio-Santos at New Year’s: when to arrive and when to leave

Rio-Santos is the only road connecting São Sebastião’s beaches to each other, with one lane each way for most of the stretch. On the eve of the 2025/26 rollover, around 3 pm on Dec 29, it had heavy traffic in both directions between São Sebastião and Ubatuba, and the north coast expected around 3 million visitors (Band Vale, Dec 29, 2025).

Three days earlier, on Dec 26, 2025, the same highway had about 47 km of slow traffic between Caraguatatuba and Ubatuba, and the trip from São Paulo to Ubatuba took nearly 10 hours, versus 3h30 on a normal day (Gazeta SP, Dec 27, 2025). The Maresias stretch is south of Caraguatatuba, but it feels the same effect on the descent from Tamoios and on the way out of Bertioga.

How to get to Maresias and São Sebastião

Maresias is on the South Coast of São Sebastião, on the north coast of São Paulo, about 200 km from the capital. The most-used route is Rodovia Mogi-Bertioga to Bertioga and then Rio-Santos north, passing through Boracéia, Juquehy and Camburi. The alternative is Rodovia dos Tamoios to Caraguatatuba and Rio-Santos south, crossing Downtown São Sebastião.

Stress-free arrival on New Year’s Eve

  • Flight: there are no regular commercial flights to São Sebastião: the most practical option is landing at Guarulhos (GRU) or Congonhas (CGH). Compare cash and miles fares on FlipMilhas.
  • Car: it’s the most common way to arrive and get around between beaches. Compare rental companies with pickup at Guarulhos on DiscoverCars and leave early on the 29th.
  • Bus: intercity lines connect São Paulo terminals to the South Coast of São Sebastião; during New Year’s week, buy in advance.
  • Insurance (optional): covers baggage and flight delays; check Seguros Promo.

For those combining Maresias with Ilhabela, the ferry leaves from Downtown São Sebastião, about 30 km from Maresias along Rio-Santos. On Dec 29, 2025, with eight vessels operating, the wait was 1h30 toward Ilhabela and 30 minutes toward the mainland, according to Band Vale.

How to get back after midnight in Maresias

The 2025/26 public party ran from 9 pm to 2 am, and Parador goes until 6 am on Jan 1. Anyone staying in Maresias walks back: the waterfront is flat, and the party square and Parador are on the same main avenue of the neighborhood.

Anyone staying on another beach depends on a car, taxi or app along Rio-Santos, and driver availability in the early hours of New Year’s Eve is slim on the South Coast. To Boiçucanga it’s about 7 km of flat road; to Juquehy, about 17 km, with winding stretches between the beaches. If you’re drinking, arrange a designated driver beforehand or sleep in the party neighborhood.

How much does New Year’s Eve in Maresias cost?

Watching the public party costs nothing; the expense comes from lodging, which requires 3 nights at New Year’s, and the paid party, if you want it. For a couple, from Dec 30 to Jan 2, the bill comes to between R$ 4,000 and R$ 7,318 (Booking and Sympla, Oct 2026).

The scenarios below show the hotel for two adults, from Dec 30 to Jan 2, taxes included, plus the chosen party. Fuel, tolls and meals depend on your city of origin: the road stretch is covered in getting there.

New Year’s Eve in Maresias: what nobody tells you

New Year’s Eve in Maresias is expensive and crowded, and almost all problems come from the road and from booking late. The five tips below help you avoid the most common mistakes of first-timers.

Weather in Maresias at New Year’s: heat and summer rain

December is summer on the north coast of São Paulo: it’s hot during the day, and the Serra do Mar, right next to the beach, favors afternoon and evening showers. New Year’s Eve tends to be hot and humid.

Bring a light rain jacket, sandals that can handle wet sand and a change of dry clothes for the way back. To pick your New Year’s Eve color, see the 2027 New Year’s Eve color guide. In heavy rain, follow São Sebastião City Hall’s official channels to find out whether the square party keeps its schedule.

January 1 in Maresias: beach, trail and tours

January 1, 2027 falls on a Friday holiday. The beach fills up late in the morning, and Rio-Santos gets slow again in the afternoon with everyone leaving. Those staying until the 2nd enjoy the 1st without the road: the sea in Maresias, which is a strong-wave beach, or in Boiçucanga and Juquehy, with calmer water.

New Year’s Eve in Maresias with kids and accessibility

For families, the public party is the best option: it’s free, ends at 2 am and uses silent fireworks, chosen by the city with noise-sensitive people and animals in mind. Boiçucanga and Juquehy, with calmer water, tend to be preferred by those traveling with small children.

Parador’s Sympla page doesn’t state a minimum age or rules for children; since the party is open bar and runs until 6 am, the profile is adult. With kids, arrive at the square early, agree on a meeting point and write the parents’ phone number on a piece of paper in the child’s pocket.

On accessibility, the advantage is that the public party is in a waterfront square, not on the sand. The facilities for people with disabilities in 2027 haven’t been announced yet. For those with reduced mobility, staying in Maresias near the main avenue avoids the road and parking on New Year’s Eve night.

Where to stay for New Year’s Eve in Maresias 2027: Maresias, Boiçucanga or Juquehy?

For the public party and Parador, the best neighborhood is Maresias itself: everything on foot. Boiçucanga, 7 km south, has its own party and lower nightly rates; Juquehy, about 17 km south, is calmer and more family-friendly, but had no official spot in 2025/26.

The hotels below have more than 140 reviews on Booking, with ratings and availability checked on 10/09/2026 for 12/30 to 01/02. At the time of the search, the three nights for a couple ranged from R$ 4,000 to R$ 9,555; go for the rate with free cancellation.

Frequently asked questions about New Year’s Eve in Maresias

Is New Year’s Eve in Maresias free?

Yes, the public party is free. In 2025/26, the São Sebastião city government held the countdown at Praça Internacional do Surf, in Maresias, with a DJ from 9 pm to 2 am and silent fireworks, no ticket needed. The 2027 schedule hasn’t been announced yet. The paid Parador party sells tickets separately on Sympla.

How much does the Parador Maresias 2027 New Year’s Eve cost?

The Réveillon Parador Maresias 2027 package runs from 12/28 to 12/31 and, in the 5th tier, cost from R$ 655.50 to R$ 1,023.50 per person including fees (Sympla, Oct/2026). On New Year’s Eve night, from 10 pm to 6 am, the package includes premium open bar, with Ashibah and Bruno Be.

Does Juquehy have fireworks on New Year’s Eve?

Juquehy had no official party or fireworks spot from the São Sebastião city government for the 2025/26 countdown. The closest beaches with fireworks were Barra do Una, to the south, and Boiçucanga, to the north. The 2027 list comes out in December.

What’s the traffic like on the Rio-Santos on New Year’s Eve?

During the 2025/26 countdown week, the Rio-Santos had heavy traffic between São Sebastião and Ubatuba and reached 47 km of slowdowns between Caraguatatuba and Ubatuba on 12/26. To get to Maresias, leave by the 29th, early in the morning, and head back from 01/02.

Is New Year’s Eve in Maresias good for kids?

The public party is the best option for families: it’s free, ends at 2 am and uses silent fireworks. The Parador is an open bar party until 6 am, geared toward adults. With small children, Boiçucanga and Juquehy have calmer water than Maresias.

Other New Year’s Eve celebrations on the São Paulo coast

If Maresias doesn’t add up for you, the north coast has other countdowns just a few hours away. The general New Year’s Eve 2027 guide gathers destinations in Brazil and abroad; nearby, check out New Year’s Eve in Ilhabela, on the other side of the ferry, New Year’s Eve in Ubatuba, with parties on several beaches, and, on the south coast, New Year’s Eve in Guarujá.

Is it worth spending New Year’s Eve in Maresias?

It’s worth it if you want a party: Maresias combines the city government’s free countdown with the Parador, the best-known paid party on the north coast. What to do now: book a hotel in the neighborhood itself so you can walk everywhere, decide whether to buy the package before the tier goes up, and plan your arrival by the 29th, because the Rio-Santos is the biggest risk of the trip. The free 2027 schedule comes out in December; join the WhatsApp group to get the heads-up.
