Gramado in October 2026 switches up its lineup as the month goes on: the food festival runs from the 8th to the 18th, Xtreme Run takes over on the 10th, and Natal Luz kicks off on the 22nd. Over in Canela, Sonho de Natal starts on the 30th. Pick your dates based on the event you actually want to see — a trip early in the month won’t include Natal Luz.

Which part of October should you pick for your trip?

From October 8 to 18, choose Gramado for the food festival. From the 22nd on, your trip starts to include Natal Luz; to also catch Sonho de Natal in Canela, stay until at least October 30.

A four-day stay won’t span all of these events. If your goal is to combine food and Natal Luz, you’d need to stay between the end of the festival and the start of Christmas, with gap days in between; usually it makes more sense to pick one priority.

When What’s happening Who it’s for
Oct 8–18 Festival de Cultura e Gastronomia Anyone who wants to try dishes and catch cultural performances
Oct 10 Xtreme Run / Ultra Trail Registered athletes and their companions
From Oct 22 41st Natal Luz Anyone after decorations, free programming and paid shows
From Oct 30 39th Sonho de Natal, in Canela Anyone who wants to split the trip between the two cities

How do you make the most of the Food Festival from October 8 to 18?

The festival takes place at Lago Joaquina Rita Bier, according to the event’s official website. Set aside one window for eating and another for sightseeing: buying dishes is its own expense, on top of the park tickets that will be part of your itinerary.

The 2026 schedule brings together musical performances, workshops and side activities. There are, for example, Senac workshops on October 9 and 16 and a 10pm close on the days of the grid; that doesn’t mean every activity starts or ends at the same time.

Check the day you’ve chosen before leaving the hotel, especially if you plan to do a workshop. For special dinners, only use listings with a 2026 date and confirm your reservation with the organizer.

The Festival de Cultura e Gastronomia guide gathers all the details for your visit. In this monthly itinerary, the best fit is to save late afternoon or evening for the event and keep your daytime sightseeing nearby, avoiding crossing the region between two activities.

Does Xtreme Run get in the way of a trip on October 10?

Xtreme Run is confirmed for October 10 on the TH2 page, the race organizer. The event has announced courses of 55, 25, 16 and 7 kilometers, plus a kids’ category; if you’re running, organize your lodging and packet pickup according to the rules.

The announced start times run from 6am for the 55-kilometer course to 9:30am for the 7-kilometer one. The kids’ race is set for 3pm at Parque Tomasini, for participants aged 4 to 13, with distances based on age.

For tourists who aren’t participating, the practical takeaway is to compare hotels for that weekend and the October 12 holiday. The race being in town doesn’t prove the whole city will be packed, nor that any street will be closed: keep your itinerary flexible and follow local traffic notices.

What can you already see of Natal Luz in October?

Natal Luz starts on October 22, 2026 and runs through January 17, 2027. The official season schedule marks the opening on 10/22 at 7pm, followed by the Lighting Show; on the other nights, the announced lighting time is 8pm.

If you want to compare other options for the date, check out where to spend Christmas 2026 in Brazil, with Christmas Eve dinners and farm hotels.

There are free attractions: Vila de Natal from 9am to 9pm, performances at Rua Coberta at 11am and 5pm, the Christmas Parade on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 3pm, and Caminho de Luzes on Tuesdays at 7pm. Check the schedule for your date: the start of the season doesn’t make every show a daily event.

For the paid ones, the reference full-price tickets checked in September 2026 are R$420 for the Grande Desfile, R$360 for Nativitaten and R$120 for each of the two shows at Palácio dos Festivais. The early-bird discount announced through 09/30/2026 has its own deadline; don’t count on it for an October purchase.

The Grande Desfile de Natal takes place at Expogramado. Nativitaten is at Serra Park; meanwhile O Brilho do Natal and Natal Luz In Concert are at Palácio dos Festivais. Pick your session before locking in your evening plans.

Is it worth adding Canela to late October?

Yes, especially if your stay reaches October 30, the start of the 39th Sonho de Natal. The Canela city government confirms the period through January 10, 2027.

The detailed 2026 schedule hasn’t been released yet on the Canela event portal; check there for times before picking a specific night. Don’t book your trip counting on a Santa Claus descent on a given date just because it happened in the previous edition.

During the day, the Catedral de Pedra and Parque do Caracol help you put together a day in Canela. For Caracol, choose your ticket type based on what you plan to do, without confusing the park with Bondinhos or Skyglass.

How do you plan hotels, clothing and sightseeing in October?

Book your base and event nights first, then the parks. The where to stay in Gramado guide helps you compare Downtown, the outer neighborhoods and Canela by total cost, including transport.

October is spring, but the month doesn’t guarantee dry days or warm nights. Bring layers, rain protection and walking shoes; adjust your outdoor plans to the forecast close to your trip, without buying a whole itinerary that depends on clear weather.

As a suggestion, spread three or four days across Downtown, one priority park and Canela. During the food festival week, save one night for the festival; after 10/22, use that night for a show or for the free Natal Luz programming.

For this trip, the decisive choice is simple: food festival through the 18th or Natal Luz from the 22nd on.
