Cruises from Recife 2026/27: What’s Actually Sailing

🇧🇷 POR | 🇺🇸 EN | 🇪🇸 ES

A cruise from Recife with a cabin for sale doesn’t exist in the 2026/2027 season: as of 10/10/2026, neither Logitravel nor Corazul was selling boarding at the Port of Recife. The Buenavista, announced for 10/31, was dropped from the initial schedule, and the crossing to Barcelona remains to be confirmed. If you live in Pernambuco, you board in Maceió, from R$ 4,454 per person (Oct/2026).

If you live in Recife, Olinda or anywhere in inland Pernambuco, hunting for a cruise that departs from your own city runs into a weak season at the local port. The 2026 announcements talked about a foreign ship’s debut, mini-cruises and a crossing to Europe, but very little of that actually went on sale. Below is what was verified on 10/10/2026, split between what sells cabins, what merely passes through the port and what still has no date.

Are there cruises departing from Recife in the 2026/2027 season?

There is no cruise departing from Recife with open sales in the 2026/2027 season. As of 10/10/2026, Logitravel’s Recife departures page listed no ships, and Corazul’s nine Brazil itineraries all leave from Santos, with optional boarding in Rio de Janeiro.

What did exist was a string of announcements. In June 2026, trade press reported that the Corazul Buenavista would reach Brazil via Recife on 10/31, after a crossing that began in Porto, Portugal, and would continue on 11/01 to Santos, with calls in Salvador and Rio. Around the same time, Corazul pulled three mini-cruises that were supposed to leave from Recife between November and December. On 09/03/2026, the Ministry of Tourism and CLIA Brasil were still presenting the Buenavista as the season’s first international ship at the Port of Recife, arriving 10/31 with 2,014 passengers and 751 crew.

After that, the company moved the debut up to October in Santos and Rio de Janeiro, and trade outlets began reporting in September that the Buenavista would no longer call at Recife at the start of the season. On Corazul’s official itinerary page, checked on 10/10/2026, no itinerary has Recife as a boarding port. That’s why the 10/31 arrival and the 11/01 departure to Santos appear here as to be confirmed: if Corazul opens sales with boarding in Pernambuco, the date goes in once it’s on the official site.

Port infrastructure also weighs in. According to the CEO of the Port of Recife, in September 2026 the dredging in front of the Passenger Ship Terminal was 40% complete, with completion expected in February 2027; after that, ships with a draft of 8.5 to 9 meters will be able to dock at the terminal. Until the work is done, cruise lines prefer Maceió and Salvador for boarding passengers in the Northeast.

Which ships board in Recife and which only make a port call?

No ship in the 2026/2027 season sells boarding in Recife as of 10/10/2026; the calls scheduled at the port are either port calls or announcements with no sales. A port call is a stop of a few hours where passengers go ashore to explore and return to the ship: nobody starts their trip there.

ShipStatus in RecifeWhere you can board
Corazul Buenavista10/31 arrival announced by the Ministry of Tourism in September; call later removed, according to the trade (to be confirmed)Santos and Rio de Janeiro (Corazul website)
Corazul Buenavista, crossingRecife → Barcelona departure on 03/01/2027 reported in August; not listed on the Corazul website or Logitravel (to be confirmed)Not on sale
MSC VirtuosaNo boarding in RecifeMaceió (Wednesdays) and Salvador (Tuesdays)
MSC DivinaNo boarding in RecifeMaceió, to Barcelona, on 03/18/2027
Costa DiademaNo boarding in RecifeSalvador, on 11/20/2026, one-way to Santos only

The Port of Recife mentioned ten ships passing through the city this season, but without publishing names and dates. Ships on world cruises or crossings stop for a few hours and move on; for a Recife local, that doesn’t turn into a cruise. If you want the Buenavista, with drinks included, you board in Santos or Rio: the 7-night Northeast itinerary leaves Santos on 01/04, 01/11, 01/18 and 01/25/2027, with an overnight in Salvador, and cabins and prices are in the Corazul Buenavista guide.

If the ship you saw announced does call at Recife, the day ashore pays off: the terminal sits in the Recife neighborhood, steps from Marco Zero, Rua do Bom Jesus and the bridges over the Capibaribe, and Olinda is just a few kilometers north.

How much does a cruise cost for someone leaving from Recife, and what’s included?

For someone leaving from Recife, the cheapest round-trip cruise back to the same port is the 7-night MSC Virtuosa boarding in Maceió, from R$ 4,454 per person on the 12/09/2026 departure (Oct/2026), taxes and service charge included. In Salvador, the same ship starts at R$ 5,114 (Oct/2026).

Price per person in a double cabin, taxes included, quoted on Logitravel on 10/10/2026. The price changes by date and category: on the Virtuosa from Maceió, the cheapest Wednesdays are 12/09/2026 and 03/03/2027 (R$ 4,814, Oct/2026), and the week of 02/03/2027, right before Carnival, is the priciest. In Salvador, the lowest price is on 03/09/2027 (R$ 5,114, Oct/2026).

According to the departure page on Logitravel (Oct/2026), MSC’s price includes the cabin with housekeeping, breakfast, lunch and dinner, shows and activities, water, coffee and juice from the buffet machines, taxes and the service charge. Not included: drinks (including soda), internet, shore excursions, spa, specialty restaurants and medical care. The MSC drinks package guide compares Easy and Premium, and the full math is in how much a cruise costs.

The real total cost for a couple from Recife on the 12/09/2026 departure starts at R$ 8,908 for an inside cabin (2 × R$ 4,454, Oct/2026), taxes included. On top of that come transport to Maceió, a hotel night the day before if you don’t want to hit the road on embarkation day, drinks, internet and shore excursions. Even so, leaving from Maceió usually costs less than flying to Santos, because the trip is done overland.

Are there cruises from Recife to Europe?

There is no crossing to Europe with boarding in Recife on sale as of 10/10/2026. The Buenavista’s 03/01/2027 departure to Barcelona was reported in August, but it isn’t on the Corazul website; the crossing that actually exists in the Northeast is the MSC Divina’s, leaving Maceió on 03/18/2027.

The August 2026 report described a 12-night trip leaving Recife on 03/01/2027, with stops in Cape Verde, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Casablanca and Barcelona. As of 10/10/2026, however, Corazul’s itinerary page only showed routes along the Brazilian coast, the last of them on 03/26/2027, and Logitravel had no departures from Recife. Until the company publishes the trip, it stays as to be confirmed, with no price.

The MSC Divina leaves Maceió on 03/18/2027 at 8 PM, spends six days at sea and stops in Santa Cruz de Tenerife (03/25), Casablanca (03/27), Málaga (03/28) and Alicante (03/29), disembarking in Barcelona on 03/30/2027. That’s 12 nights, from “+fato(“R$ 7,287 per person”)+” (Oct/2026), taxes included, according to the departure page on Logitravel. The return flight from Europe is not included. If you’d rather start in Salvador, you’ll find the Divina’s 03/17/2027 departure in the cruise from Salvador guide.

For anyone living in Pernambuco, the crossing is the way to reach Europe by ship without going through Southeast Brazil: the leg to Maceió is done overland, and the return is a flight from Spain. There’s no stop in Portugal on this itinerary, nor in Lisbon. The six straight days at sea between Maceió and Tenerife are the part that divides opinions most: for those who love the pool, spa and onboard programming, it’s pure rest; for those prone to seasickness, it’s the hardest week of the trip.

What cabin types are there and which one is worth it?

On the MSC ships leaving from Maceió and Salvador there are four cabin types: inside, ocean view with a window, balcony and suite. For most couples, an inside cabin does the job on a 7-night trip; on the 12-night crossing, with six straight days at sea, a balcony matters more.

TypeBest forWhen it’s worth paying more
InsideThose who want the lowest price and only use the cabin to sleep7-night itineraries with port calls
Ocean view (window)Those who want natural light for a little extraEarly risers who love watching the sea
BalconyThose who’ll spend sea days in the cabinThe MSC Divina crossing, with six straight days at sea
SuiteFamilies and anyone wanting more space and serviceGroups sharing the cabin

The 7-night Virtuosa from Maceió has three sea days: two right after boarding and one between Búzios and Salvador. If you spend those days at the pool, you’ll miss a balcony less than if you crave quiet. If you’re prone to seasickness, pick a cabin on the middle decks, near the center of the ship, where the motion is gentler; the seasickness on a cruise guide covers the rest. For a family of four, compare the price of two inside cabins with one suite on the departure page before deciding.

On the crossing it’s different. There are six straight days without land between Maceió and Tenerife, and an inside cabin, with no natural light, weighs heavier during that week. The Divina’s departure page on Logitravel shows the categories available for 03/18/2027 with each price; check the difference before deciding. For families, the ocean view with a window is the middle ground: natural light without the balcony price.

Tip: on December departures and the March crossing, balcony cabins usually sell out first and prices climb close to the date; check the balconies on Maceió departures.

Which port does the cruise leave from, and how do you get to the boarding point?

If you’re leaving from Recife, you board at the Passenger Ship Terminal of the Port of Maceió, on Rua Sá e Albuquerque, s/n, in the Jaraguá neighborhood, about 260 km via the BR-101. The other option is the Salvador terminal, in the Cidade Baixa, which requires a flight or a full day on the road.

By car, the route along the BR-101 passes through southern Pernambuco and northern Alagoas; there are also buses between the two capitals’ bus stations. The time that matters is check-in: under MSC’s boarding rules, check-in and boarding close 2 hours before the ship departs. Since the Virtuosa leaves at 5 PM, the cutoff in Maceió is 3 PM; on the Divina, which leaves at 8 PM, the cutoff is 6 PM. Your e-ticket shows your individual arrival time at the terminal.

Leaving Recife in the middle of the night on embarkation day can work, but any hiccup on the road puts the trip at risk. If you’re coming from inland or prefer to arrive with time to spare, sleep in Maceió the night before. In Salvador, flying from Recife is the most practical route, and boarding the Virtuosa on Tuesdays follows the same 2-hour rule.

Where to sleep the night before boarding?

To board in Maceió, the Pajuçara and Ponta Verde beaches are close to the Jaraguá port and concentrate the waterfront hotels: the ride to the terminal is short and doesn’t involve highways. If you want to save, stay in Jaraguá or downtown, closer to the port but with fewer beach options.

Large suitcases are checked in at the terminal entrance and reach your cabin at night. Keep documents, medication and a swimsuit in your carry-on, because the ship’s pool is already open in the afternoon. On the way back, the Virtuosa arrives in Maceió at 9 AM on Wednesday: if you’re heading back to Recife the same day, factor in the slow group-by-group disembarkation. More hotels in the city are in the hotels in Maceió guide, and the port and full itinerary are in the cruise from Maceió guide.

What documents do I need to board?

On Brazil-only itineraries, like the Virtuosa from Maceió or Salvador, MSC accepts an ID card, passport or driver’s license; the digital driver’s license is only valid if shown through the official app. On the MSC Divina crossing to Barcelona, only a passport works, with at least 6 months of validity, according to MSC’s document page.

The document must be the original, in good condition and with a recognizable photo. Minors under 18 traveling without both parents need written authorization with a notarized signature; the step-by-step for each case is in the cruise documents guide. On the Costa Diadema, check the rule on your Costa e-ticket. Also bring your e-ticket printed or on your phone and the credit card that will be linked to your onboard account; on domestic itineraries, charges are in reais.

Tip: the ship’s medical center is paid separately and public healthcare doesn’t cover you onboard; on the crossing, medical expenses in Tenerife, Casablanca or Spain are on you too. Insurance with medical expenses and cancellation covers both ends: get a travel insurance quote.

Is it worth it? Who it’s for and who it isn’t

It’s worth it if you live in Pernambuco and accept starting the trip in Maceió: the price is the same as for Alagoas residents, and the overland leg costs less than a flight to Santos. It’s not worth waiting for boarding in Recife this season, because no departure has a date confirmed by the cruise line.

Worth it for: couples and families who want a one-week coastal cruise without flying; anyone who wants to reach Europe by ship, on the March crossing from Maceió; those who want to pay in reais and in installments.

Not worth it for: anyone who’ll only leave from Recife; those who get seasick easily, since the Virtuosa has three sea days and the Divina six in a row; anyone wanting New Year’s Eve onboard from Maceió, which doesn’t exist this season (the 12/29 departure is from Salvador); and anyone set on the Buenavista with drinks included, which only boards in Santos and Rio.

If you’d rather not drive, compare a flight to Salvador with the overland leg to Maceió. In Salvador, the Virtuosa costs from R$ 5,114 per person (Oct/2026), R$ 660 more than the cheapest Wednesday in Maceió, not counting airfare.

What nobody tells you about cruises from Recife

The return arrival in Maceió, at 9 AM, has a detail too: disembarkation is by groups and checked luggage comes out in order of the call. If you have plans in Recife that same Wednesday, keep the afternoon free.

Conclusion

As of 10/10/2026, a cruise boarding in Recife isn’t on sale: the Buenavista and the 03/01/2027 crossing remain to be confirmed. To not miss the season, the best buy for anyone from Pernambuco is the MSC Virtuosa from Maceió on 12/09/2026 or 03/03/2027, from R$ 4,454 and R$ 4,814 per person (Oct/2026). If you want Europe, board the MSC Divina on 03/18/2027. If flying is more practical than driving, compare with the cruise from Salvador and the ships of the 2026/2027 cruise season.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cancellation and refund policy?

The cruise cancellation policy depends on the fare. On MSC’s promotional fare, anyone who cancels pays a 50% penalty with 31 days or more of notice and 100% in the final 30 days. If the cruise line cancels the trip, the passenger is entitled to an equivalent service or a full refund. Ask for your fare’s rules in writing before paying.

Are there restrictions for children, seniors or pregnant travelers?

On MSC, pregnant travelers cannot board at 23 weeks and 6 days or more on any day of the trip and need a doctor’s note. Minors under 18 can’t occupy a cabin without an adult, and anyone traveling without both parents needs authorization with a notarized signature. There’s no maximum age for seniors.

Are there cruises from Recife to Portugal or Lisbon?

There are no cruises from Recife to Portugal or Lisbon on sale as of 10/10/2026. The only Northeast crossing with open sales is the MSC Divina’s, which leaves Maceió on 03/18/2027 and ends in Barcelona, with stops in Tenerife, Casablanca, Málaga and Alicante, and no Portuguese port call.

When does the first international ship arrive in Recife?

The Ministry of Tourism and CLIA Brasil announced in September 2026 the arrival of the Corazul Buenavista in Recife on 10/31, as the season’s first international ship. Later, the company moved the debut up in Santos and Rio and removed the Recife call, according to the trade; the date remains to be confirmed.
