About the Rio Open 2027

The Rio Open is an ATP 500 tennis tournament played on clay courts and reaches its 13th edition in 2027. The competition takes over the Jockey Club Brasileiro in the South Zone, but will feature an expanded complex in the area known as Pião do Prado: according to organizers, the space grows from 40,000 m² to 67,000 m², with four match courts plus more areas for lounging, food and circulation.

João Fonseca is confirmed and plays at home in front of the Rio crowd. The player list can change due to injury or other reasons, and the Rio Open says the full official lineup usually comes out about two weeks before the tournament. Flavio Cobolli and Casper Ruud are also among the announced names. Since it’s a knockout format, the order of play comes out the day before; buying a ticket doesn’t guarantee you’ll see a specific Fonseca match in advance.

How to get to the Jockey Club Brasileiro

The listed entrance is at Av. Mário Ribeiro, 410, in Lagoa. By subway, organizers recommend Antero de Quental station on Line 4, about 1 km or a 12-minute walk. Check MetrôRio on the day for schedules and return service. You can also plan a ride via app or mobility site and arrive by taxi or rideshare. If you’re driving, check access and parking conditions: the event can cause traffic backups in Lagoa and Gávea.

Qualifying takes place the weekend before the main draw, right after Carnival, whose Champions’ Parade falls on 02/13. Plan your return route before heading out and consider staying in a neighborhood with good transport and food options. The entrance is in Lagoa, next to Gávea, and sessions can run into the night. Since the first weekend still catches the post-Carnival rush, compare location and cancellation: see hotels in Gávea for 02/13 to 02/22.

What to do in Rio between matches

If you have a free day, Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf Mountain are classic outings that can be booked in advance. Check duration, meeting point and availability on the activity pages, because post-Carnival traffic on the first weekend can change travel times.

Another option is to spend a few hours taking in the Guanabara Bay view and the Sugarloaf complex. Allow time for the round trip, especially if you’re attending a night session.

Where to stay for the Rio Open

Gávea and Jardim Botânico put you close to the Jockey Club and Lagoa; Lagoa and Leblon also work well for combining the tournament with restaurants, the beach and South Zone sightseeing. Copacabana offers more lodging and transport options but adds travel time to the entrance. Compare the address and route before booking. In the week after Carnival demand is still high, so check the cancellation policy and distance to the session.
