Who’s performing at New Year’s Eve in Niterói 2027?
The Niterói City Government confirmed on 09/22/2026 that Alceu Valença and João Gomes are part of the celebration from December 31, 2026 to January 1, 2027. João Gomes closes the night after the fireworks, with forró and piseiro, according to the official announcement.
The announced lineup starts with the Orquestra do Programa Aprendiz Musical, continues with Alceu Valença and the Unidos do Viradouro drum section, goes through the midnight fireworks and ends with João Gomes. The times for each show haven’t been announced yet.
The announcement doesn’t detail the venue. At recent editions, the stage was on Praia de Icaraí, and this guide uses that as a reference until Neltur, which organizes the party, confirms the 2027 address.

Free New Year’s Eve in Niterói: stage in Icaraí and fireworks at five spots
You can spend New Year’s Eve in Niterói without paying a thing: the public party in Icaraí was free in 2025/26, no ticket needed, with a stage on the sand, shows and midnight fireworks, plus fireworks in four other neighborhoods.
For 2027, the City Government’s announcement doesn’t mention any charge. 2025/26 edition
The Icaraí fireworks launch from five barges anchored about 500 meters from the sand. In 2025/26, they lasted 16 minutes and used around two tons of low-noise fireworks, with effects from equipment used at Disney parks, according to the City Government (barge inspection, 12/30/2025).

Icaraí is the biggest spot, but not the only one. At the last celebration there were fireworks at five locations: Praia de Icaraí, Praia de Itaipu, Santa Rosa, Caramujo and Vila Ipiranga, in Fonseca. Icaraí sits on the bay waterfront, facing Rio; Itaipu is in the Oceanic Region, facing the open sea, and the other three are residential neighborhoods inland. Residents of those neighborhoods can watch the fireworks close to home and skip the waterfront crowds.
Paid parties on New Year’s Eve in Niterói
New Year’s Eve in Niterói is, above all, the public party in Icaraí, and paid parties are few: as of Oct/2026, only Clube Central, in Icaraí, was selling tickets for 2027.
The one already selling tickets for 2027 is the Réveillon do Clube Central, in Icaraí, all inclusive, from 9pm on 12/31 to 2am on 01/01. On sale 2027 The non-member ticket costs R$ 700 + R$ 70 fee, or R$ 770 per person (Sympla, Oct/2026).

The Sympla page accepts cancellations up to 7 days after purchase, as long as the request is made up to 48 hours before the event. Those looking for a VIP box, rooftop or hotel party with a postcard view usually look across the bay: the paid parties in Copacabana are in our New Year’s Eve in Rio de Janeiro guide.

New Year’s Eve in Niterói or Copacabana: which to choose?
Niterói offers a smaller free celebration with longer fireworks; Copacabana is Rio’s biggest party, with 2.5 million people on the waterfront and paid hotel parties. The choice depends on how much crowd you can handle and how you plan to get back.
| Criterion | Niterói (Icaraí) | Copacabana |
|---|---|---|
| Crowd | Around 700,000 people | 2.5 million people on the waterfront |
| Fireworks | 16 min, five barges | 12 min, 19 barges and a drone show |
| 2027 attractions | Alceu Valença and João Gomes confirmed | No singers announced as of 09/25/2026 |
| Paid parties | One on sale (Clube Central) | Arena Copacabana, Hilton and Copacabana Palace |
| Getting back | Buses until around 6am; walking only if you’re staying in the neighborhood | Subway; walking in Copacabana and Leme |

Niterói pays off for those who want to watch the fireworks up close, with fewer people and a free party; Copacabana, for those who want the country’s biggest celebration and don’t mind the crowd. If you’re torn, check the map of fireworks spots in where to watch the fireworks in Rio.
How to get to Niterói and back after midnight
Getting back is the biggest practical risk of New Year’s Eve in Icaraí: the waterfront closes to cars and the whole crowd leaves at once. In 2025/26, the City Government boosted bus service with more than 280 vehicles and kept operations running until around 6am (official report, 01/02/2026).
Stress-free arrival on New Year’s Eve
- Flight: Niterói has no commercial airport: flights arrive at Santos Dumont (SDU) or Galeão (GIG), in Rio. Compare cash and miles fares on FlipMilhas and try to arrive by the 30th.
- Transfer: Civitatis sells transfers from Galeão and Santos Dumont to Niterói; the price per person appears on the page.
- Car: in 2025/26 the Icaraí waterfront closed to cars from 6pm, so don’t count on a car for the night. For the Oceanic Region or January 1st, compare rental companies on Rentcars.
- Insurance (optional): covers baggage and flight delays; check Seguros Promo.
The safest plan is to stay in Niterói, preferably in Icaraí: those staying in the neighborhood walk back and don’t depend on buses, ferries or ride apps in the early hours. Ingá is the neighboring district, right next to Icaraí; Centro is further north, by the ferry station.
What traffic was like in 2025/26
The Icaraí waterfront was closed to cars from 6pm on 12/31, between Miguel de Frias and Mariz e Barros streets. Roads began reopening from 10am on 01/01 (Folha do Leste, 12/30/2025). Rua Miguel de Frias became one-way, only toward Ingá, Avenida Roberto Silveira got a reversible lane from 6pm and parking was banned on both sides of streets such as Miguel de Frias, Mariz e Barros and Ator Paulo Gustavo.

Do the ferries run on New Year’s Eve?
At the last celebration, the service notice had the Rio–Niterói ferries running normally on 12/31 and on a Sunday/holiday schedule on 01/01, with the Arariboia line, which links Praça XV to Niterói, every 60 minutes (Folha do Leste, 12/24/2025). The overnight schedule wasn’t released.
For reference, on the 10/04/2026 schedule, an election Sunday, the last ferry from Niterói to Praça XV was scheduled for 11:30pm (Folha do Leste, 10/03/2026). The 2027 ferry and bus schedules will only come out close to the date; if you’re coming from Rio and want to head back overnight, plan to stay in Niterói.
How much does it cost to spend New Year’s Eve in Niterói?
Watching the public party in Icaraí costs no ticket; the real expense comes from lodging, transport to Niterói and a paid party, if you want one. With three nights from 12/30 to 01/02 for a couple, New Year’s Eve in Niterói runs between R$ 3,075 and R$ 4,693 (Booking and Sympla, Oct/2026).
The scenarios below add up hotel, celebration and getting back for the night of 12/31. Airfare to Rio and meals are left out, since they vary a lot depending on your home city and travel style.

New Year’s Eve pitfalls in Icaraí: what nobody tells you
The 2025/26 rules are a good guide: access barriers to Icaraí, searches to collect glass bottles and a ban on speakers and barbecues on the beach (City Government, 12/12/2025). The 2027 rules should be announced close to the date.
- Glass, speakers and barbecues stay out: searches are carried out by the Municipal Guard and Military Police at the access points.
- A car won’t help: with the waterfront closed from 6pm, those arriving by car need to park far away and walk.
- Agree on a fixed meeting point, away from the exit flow: with around 700,000 people, cell signal can drop.
- Last-minute party tickets and lodging are the most common scams; see the 6 most common New Year’s Eve scams.
- Emergencies: Military Police (190), Samu ambulance (192) and Fire Department (193).
Weather and rain plan B for New Year’s Eve in Niterói
December is summer in Niterói: it’s usually hot, and evening showers are possible. During the 2025/26 barge inspection, Civil Defense was already tracking a rain forecast for New Year’s Eve night and said it would monitor the weather on 12/31 and 01/01 (City Government, 12/30/2025).
Bring a light rain jacket instead of an umbrella, which gets in the way of people behind you in the crowd, and closed shoes that can handle wet sand; the color of the celebration has its own guide in New Year’s Eve 2027 colors. If heavy rain disrupts the party, follow the official channels of the City Government and Neltur; neighborhood fireworks, like Itaipu and Santa Rosa, are the plan B for those who live or stay nearby.
January 1st in Niterói: transport, beach and tours
On January 1, 2027, a Friday and a holiday, transport follows holiday logic: in 2025/26 the ferries ran on a Sunday/holiday schedule and the Icaraí waterfront reopened to cars from 10am, after cleanup. There’s no official schedule for museums and restaurants; confirm times on the 30th.
After the long night, January 1st usually calls for beach and a light outing. Those staying in Icaraí have the beach a few steps away, and those wanting to extend the trip will find tours in Niterói and, across the bay, in Rio.

The four tours below work for January 1st or January 2nd; the first two depart from Niterói and the other two from Rio.

New Year’s Eve in Niterói with kids and accessibility
With small children, Niterói’s advantage is the low-noise fireworks, designed for children with autism (ASD), seniors, animals and people sensitive to noise (City Government, 12/12/2025). The challenge is the crowd: go early and agree on a meeting point.
At the 2024/25 edition, the City Government set up three medical stations on the waterfront, eight ambulances (two mobile ICUs), more than a thousand portable toilets and areas for people with disabilities and seniors (City Government, 12/27/2024). In 2023, the CISP mobile station at Praça Getúlio Vargas handed out 2,500 wristbands to identify children (City Government, 12/21/2023).
The 2027 accessibility setup hasn’t been announced yet. For seniors and people with reduced mobility, staying in Icaraí avoids depending on transport on the way out.
Where to stay for New Year’s Eve in Niterói 2027: Icaraí, Ingá or Centro?
To watch the party and walk back, the best neighborhood is Icaraí. Ingá, next to Icaraí, is the second option; Centro and Charitas suit those who want to be near the ferries, and Itaipu, in the Oceanic Region, has its own fireworks display.
The hotels below have more than 250 reviews on Booking, with ratings checked on 10/09/2026. Rates go up for New Year’s Eve and Icaraí fills up first; go for a rate with free cancellation.
