The real choice comes down to where you’ll ring in the New Year: a planned view of Rio’s fireworks on the Musica, or an international itinerary on the Diadema. Itinerary confirmation doesn’t guarantee a perfect view of the fireworks, and a fare advertised on a page with multiple dates may belong to another week.

Logitravel lists two seven-night departures that include 12/31: MSC Musica on December 27, 2026, and Costa Diadema on December 26, 2026. Don’t confuse the Musica’s Paranaguá departure on 12/26 with the Itajaí embarkation the following day.

How much does a New Year’s Eve cruise from Itajaí cost?

For 12/27, Logitravel listed MSC Musica from R$ 10,494 per person on 09/29/2026, with taxes included in the displayed offer. The Costa Diadema page groups 12/19 and 12/26 under a single starting price; that’s why that figure can’t be used as a quote for the New Year’s departure.

Per-person pricing assumes the occupancy indicated by the offer, usually two guests per cabin. For two adults on the Musica, the advertised starting fare totaled R$ 20,988 on 09/29/2026, before transport to Itajaí, a hotel the night before, drinks, shore excursions and on-board expenses. Do the math with the final cart total; don’t add an interior cabin fare to the perks of a higher category.

To lower the total, compare interior, oceanview and balcony cabins on the same date for MSC Musica on Logitravel. A January offer may look much cheaper, but it doesn’t include New Year’s Eve. If you’d rather see Buenos Aires and Montevideo, quoting the Diadema for 12/26 is the fair comparison.

Where does the New Year’s celebration happen: free fireworks or a paid party?

The stop off Copacabana appears on the MSC Musica itinerary for 12/27; Costa Diadema spends the night of 12/31 during its international voyage. The on-board party depends on the schedule announced by the cruise line. The viewing spot, sea conditions and deck access rules can change.

A view with no extra ticket

On MSC Musica, the Copacabana stop is part of the 12/27 departure being sold. Anyone who has already bought the cruise doesn’t need to purchase a separate public ticket to be on the ship during the New Year’s celebration. That doesn’t make the cruise free, nor does it guarantee an unobstructed view of the fireworks from any point on the ship. Confirm open areas and the night’s operations with MSC.

The main difference is that the first itinerary includes Copacabana and the second crosses the border. On both, meals and celebrations follow the fare and the on-board schedule; ask the cruise line whether there’s a reserved special area or a separate package for the night.

Fare and paid services

Both ships require purchasing a cabin. On MSC Musica, the verifiable starting price for 12/27 was R$ 10,494 per person on 09/29/2026. On Costa Diadema, the Christmas and New Year’s page lists 12/26, but the lowest price shown doesn’t isolate that date. Check the exact Costa Diadema departure before booking. Drinks, internet, spa and excursions may add costs depending on the fare.

The Musica isn’t a boat ride that just embarks to watch the fireworks: it’s a full cruise, returning to Itajaí on January 3. On the Diadema, none of the ads we reviewed promise Copacabana fireworks; the reason to choose it is visiting Argentina and Uruguay on the same itinerary.

What’s the itinerary for each ship through January 1?

MSC Musica sails along the Brazilian coast; Costa Diadema crosses to the Río de la Plata region. The difference changes documents, insurance, currency on land and how you spend January 1. Check the itinerary you receive with your booking, since the New Year’s port can be adjusted.

On the Musica, Búzios comes before the night off Copacabana; Paranaguá comes on the return. So on January 1 you’ll still be at sea and shouldn’t plan a hotel or flight out of Rio that morning. On the Diadema, the international stops require attention to local time and the cruise line’s disembarkation instructions. Check the program delivered on board before booking independent tours.

To see other embarkation ports and ships, compare the general New Year’s Eve cruise guide, the Costa Diadema guide and the Santos departures. Those articles detail the ship; here, the focus is the choice and embarkation in Itajaí.

What’s included in the fare and what costs extra?

The fare buys the cabin and the services included in the selected rate, with meals and entertainment according to the cruise line’s rules. The “New Year’s Eve cruise” label doesn’t mean unlimited alcoholic drinks. Read the final screen of each offer and the fare contract before completing your booking.

On the Diadema, an international stop may add insurance, currency exchange and spending on land. On the Musica, the Copacabana view is an itinerary highlight, but the cruise line may regulate deck access for safety and weather. The same goes for reduced-mobility areas: ask for written confirmation about the cabin and accessible routes before paying.

Interior, oceanview or balcony cabin: which should you choose?

Choose your cabin based on how you’ll use the seven days, not just the fireworks photo. An interior cabin lowers the starting price; an oceanview brings natural light; a balcony gives you private space, but it doesn’t replace an open deck spot for watching the coast. Confirm cabin orientation and obstructions on the deck plan.

Tip: if a balcony weighs on your decision, compare its final price with the interior for 12/27, not with a regular January cruise. See MSC Musica cabins for the right date.

If you’re traveling with children, check the cabin’s legal capacity for all guests; two extra beds aren’t guaranteed in every category. For accessibility, check adapted cabins and ask the cruise line to confirm the route between the terminal, shuttle transport and ship. On tender ports, going ashore may depend on the sea and safety rules.

Do you need a passport, ID and travel insurance?

MSC Musica sails the announced Brazilian route; Costa Diadema visits Argentina and Uruguay. For the international itinerary, a driver’s license doesn’t replace an ID or passport as a travel document. The exact list depends on nationality, age and Costa’s rules, so check the documents in your booking and again close to embarkation.

Driver’s license at embarkation — checked on 10/16/2026: for Brazilian adults, MSC and Costa accept a driver’s license in good condition on cruises with stops only in Brazil. With Argentina or Uruguay, a driver’s license isn’t valid: bring an accepted original physical ID or a valid passport, according to the cruise line.

Under 18: the MSC list (clause 5.9.1) for domestic trips requires an ID, original birth certificate or passport valid for at least 6 months; Costa requires an ID issued less than 10 years ago or an original birth certificate only for children under 12. A driver’s license isn’t on those lists for minors. Bring proof of parentage and the authorizations required depending on companions and itinerary. Details are in cruise documents.

Tip: on the itinerary with Argentina, check whether the policy covers the entire trip, including days on board, and whether the insurer provides proof accepted at the destination. Compare travel insurance coverage.

MSC details documents for domestic routes and for Argentina/Uruguay and warns about Argentina’s requirement for health insurance for foreign visitors. Even on the Brazilian cruise, medical care on board may be charged. On 09/29/2026, before booking the Diadema, confirm with Costa the coverage required for the Argentine stop and save your policy and contacts offline.

Where do you embark in Itajaí and how do you get to the terminal?

The Port of Itajaí states that ships dock at the port berths and the passenger reception is set up at the Centreventos. The old Guilherme Asseburg Passenger Pier no longer receives large ships. Use the check-in point on your ticket; don’t go directly to the cargo quay.

The Centreventos is at Avenida Ministro Victor Konder, 303, in the Centro, according to Itajaí City Hall documentation. Confirm with the operator the access for taxis, ride apps, parking, luggage check-in and any shuttle bus between the reception and the ship. The port refers operational guidance to the agency or the Tourism Department, since it varies by call.

Those arriving by plane usually use Navegantes Airport, across the river, and need to allow time for the trip to Itajaí. Those driving via BR-101 should factor in summer traffic and parking for the whole week. Arriving the night before prevents a flight delay, rain or traffic jam from turning into a missed embarkation; the cruise line sets the check-in deadline. Outside New Year’s, the other dates, mini-cruises and the new terminal are in the cruise from Itajaí 2026/2027 season guide.

Where should you stay in Itajaí before the cruise?

To embark without rushing on 12/26 or 12/27, prioritize lodging in the Centro or near Beira-Rio and confirm the route to the Centreventos. The city fills up in summer, so compare cancellation policies and check-out times. See hotels in Itajaí for the night before and adjust the dates to your chosen ship; the link opens a search, without promising specific availability.

Is it worth traveling with children or people with reduced mobility?

The seven days give you time to enjoy the ship, but the best family choice depends on the cabin, age-appropriate activities and the pace of the stops. Ask the cruise line about the minimum age, documents for minors and whether the cabin accommodates everyone. For small children, plan a rest schedule before the midnight party.

For reduced mobility, check the adapted cabin, embarkation through the Centreventos and access to the New Year’s viewing areas. Stops with tender transfers may limit going ashore depending on conditions. Ask the cruise line for specific answers before buying non-refundable excursions.

What’s the weather like and what should you do if it rains on New Year’s Eve?

December is summer on the coast and can bring heat, rain showers and variable seas. Bring sun protection, a light rain jacket and sturdy shoes for wet decks. On the Musica, rain or sea conditions can affect positioning and fireworks visibility; choose the ship for the whole itinerary, with a plan B on board.

After midnight, you’re already on your own means of transport and don’t depend on getting back from a party on land. That helps with logistics, but bars, elevators and the deck can get crowded. On January 1, follow the ship’s daily bulletin for restaurant hours, activities and any stop, instead of assuming attractions on land will be open.

The Diadema is the alternative for those who want to disembark in two cities outside Brazil. If your absolute priority is seeing Copacabana from the sea, choose the published Musica itinerary and confirm the stop’s operation with the cruise line before buying. Choosing one ship doesn’t make the other’s party equivalent.

Which cruise should you choose from Itajaí?

Choose MSC Musica on 12/27 if the planned stop off Copacabana is the main reason for the trip and the Brazilian coast is enough. Choose Costa Diadema on 12/26 if Buenos Aires and Montevideo are worth more to you than the fireworks view. On both, compare the fare for the exact date, the documents and the total cost before booking.
