Balneário Camboriú has a reputation for being a pricey destination—and it’s no lie, the prices during high season can be intimidating. But many of the city’s most beautiful experiences won’t cost you a thing: wooden decks, piers that stretch out into the ocean, and a natural lookout with 180° views are all open, free of charge, all year round.

The most sought-after free attractions in Balneário Camboriú are the Molhe da Barra Sul, the Molhe da Barra Norte, the Passarela da Barra, the Deck do Pontal Norte, and the trail up to the Morro do Careca lookout—all with open access, no tickets, and open every day.

Molhe da Barra Sul

At the end of Avenida Atlântica, in front of the Parque Unipraias station, the Molhe da Barra Sul stretches about 452 meters into the sea. It’s the classic sunset spot in Balneário Camboriú, according to ND Mais—the pier’s lighting and landscaping were renovated in recent years, making the stroll even more inviting at dusk.

Molhe da Barra Norte

On the other end of town, next to the Big Wheel Ferris wheel, the Molhe da Barra Norte is about 300 meters long and is a natural vantage point for local surfers and fishermen. At night, with the illuminated waterfront in the background, it’s also one of the best spots for photos of the city without paying for any observation deck ticket.

Passarela da Barra

This suspended metal walkway is 190 meters long and about 57 meters high—the equivalent of a 22-story building—and connects Barra Sul to the historic Barra neighborhood. It’s open 24 hours, free, and can be crossed on foot, by bike, or by skateboard, with views of where the Camboriú River meets the sea.

On the other side of the walkway, it’s worth walking to the Igreja de Santo Amaro and the Casa Linhares, the city’s only remaining colonial building—quite a contrast to the skyscrapers along the waterfront.

Deck do Pontal Norte

At the edge between Praia Central and Barra Norte, the Deck do Pontal Norte is a wooden walkway about 800 meters long that winds around the rocky shore, with shaded stretches guaranteed by the preserved native vegetation around it. Along the way, there are lookout points with views of the entire waterfront—a peaceful stroll, great at any time of day.

Morro do Careca Trail

This is the city’s most complete natural lookout, according to Norte a Sul SC: at about 100 meters above sea level, it offers a panoramic 180° view covering Praia Central, Praia Brava, and a good portion of the coastline. The trail is short and requires no prior experience—you can do it in regular sneakers, but bring water, because there’s no shade along the entire route. It’s one of the favorite spots to watch the sunrise.

If you’d rather see that skyline from a different angle without the hike, you can also book a ticket for the Summit BC lookout, which is in the central area and has easy access.

Tips for enjoying without spending

Combine two or three of these spots on the same day—the Molhe da Barra Sul and the Morro do Careca trail, for example, are close to each other and make for a complete afternoon itinerary. Head to the Molhe da Barra Norte near the end of the day to catch the sunset, and bring sunscreen and water for the trail, since much of the route is exposed to the sun.
