The Women’s World Cup 2027 Rio de Janeiro has the Maracanã as its host stadium and brings together, in one place, the match and the city: access by metro and train, neighborhoods with shorter commutes to the stadium and sightseeing attractions for the days between matches. The Maracanã sits between the Maracanã and Tijuca neighborhoods, in the North Zone, and will host FIFA Women’s World Cup matches between June 24 and July 25, 2027. For sightseeing, the South Zone and Downtown concentrate more attractions, but require a longer trip to the stadium; Tijuca, Flamengo and Botafogo balance both sides. This guide gathers what is already confirmed about the Rio de Janeiro host city and how to plan your trip to the Maracanã.

In this article: prices and buying, schedule, how to get there, access rules and where to stay.

Tickets: prices and where to buy

As of August 20, 2026, FIFA allowed fans to register interest to receive news about the matches at the Maracanã and other host cities. That is not the same as buying or reserving a ticket. Sales phases, prices, seating sections and transfer rules have yet to be published. Don’t pay intermediaries for a registration and don’t use unauthorized resellers. When sales open, go through the FIFA domain, check currency and account holder details and keep all receipts.

What is confirmed

The Cup will be the first edition of the women’s tournament in South America. Thirty-two teams will play 64 matches between June 24 and July 25, 2027. Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Fortaleza, Porto Alegre, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and São Paulo are the official host cities. The detailed schedule, with matches, times and stadium distribution, will be published by FIFA.

How to get to the Maracanã

The Maracanã and São Cristóvão stations serve the complex via the metro-rail network. Special operations and gate openings will be announced close to the tournament. Avoid driving: road closures and limited parking around the Maracanã make the return trip unpredictable. From the South Zone, allow at least an hour to reach the stadium and expect crowded connections on match day.

The same metro access serves other events at the stadium, such as the Xuxa show at the Maracanã, on December 20, 2026.

Rio weather in June and July

So far, this guide does not include confirmed data on temperature, rain or humidity for the June to July 2027 period in Rio de Janeiro. Check the forecast from official weather sources close to your trip before deciding on clothes and items for match day at the Maracanã.

When to book your trip

Without the full schedule, the safest strategy for anyone targeting Rio de Janeiro is to use refundable accommodation and flight alerts. If you want to follow a specific team, wait for the group draw and host city definitions. If your goal is to experience the tournament in the city, you can already choose Rio for its attractions and flight network. Avoid flying on the same day as a match at the Maracanã and leave a buffer between host cities: Brazilian distances make some combinations unfeasible by road.

How to plan match day at the Maracanã

Arrive early, use public transport when there is special operation at the Maracanã and confirm the gate indicated on your ticket. The stadium may adopt security perimeters, bag restrictions and road closures in the surrounding area. Bring ID, a charged phone and only permitted items. On the way out, follow official signage; ride-hailing apps often have distant pickup points and surge pricing. Don’t schedule dinner or a flight with a tight window after the final whistle.

Realistic budget in the Rio de Janeiro host city

Beyond the ticket for the match at the Maracanã, add accommodation, domestic flights, urban transport in Rio, food and insurance. A cheaper nightly rate far from the stadium or from a useful metro line can lead to higher transport costs. If you combine Rio with another host city, include a travel day between cities. For knockout matches, prefer flexible bookings, since your team’s path depends on results.

Sources and updates

This guide was checked on August 20, 2026 with FIFA. Dates, host cities and stadiums are confirmed; the schedule, times and detailed sales for the matches at the Maracanã are still awaiting official publication. The content will be updated when these milestones are announced.

Checklist before you confirm

For families and people with disabilities, read the Maracanã accessibility rules before sales open. Seating sections, companions, documentation and adapted transport may follow specific procedures; don’t assume the rules used at another tournament will stay the same in 2027. Save the official pages and review the details close to your trip, including ID validity, card limits and the time zone shown on your purchase receipt.

Local planning

During match week, check with the city government, the transport operator and the Maracanã. The special plan may change stations, lines, times and ride-hailing pickup points in the area. Download maps, set an alternative route to the stadium and look up accessibility info. If traveling with children or older adults, reduce commitments on the same day and prioritize accommodation with a simple connection to the Maracanã. Bring water only under permitted conditions and agree in advance on a safe meeting point outside the main flow.

Where to stay: Rio neighborhoods

Tijuca is close to the Maracanã and has its own metro station, a good option for those prioritizing the commute on match day. Flamengo and Botafogo balance access to the stadium and proximity to tourist attractions. Copacabana and Ipanema work better for those prioritizing beach and nightlife, with a longer trip to the Maracanã. On a free day, combine Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf Mountain without booking attractions right before match time.
