How to Get to Christ the Redeemer: Van, Train, Trail and Uber

🇧🇷 POR | 🇫🇷 FR | 🇺🇸 EN | 🇪🇸 ES

If you want to know how to get to Christ the Redeemer, atop Corcovado, there are four ways: the official Paineiras van, the Corcovado Train, the hiking trail through Parque Lage and Uber/car (which only takes you to the base). You can’t drive a private car up to the monument — the final stretch is always the official van, the train or the trail. See below which one fits your trip.

Quick answer: the cheapest and most practical way is the official van (from R$ 87, price checked in August 2026); the Corcovado Train is the most traditional (R$ 134 in August 2026); the Parque Lage trail is free but strenuous (up to 4 hours) and still requires a R$ 58 admission ticket at the top, price checked in August 2026; and by Uber you only reach the base, where you catch the van or train.

Option Price Time Best for
Official van (Paineiras) R$ 87 to R$ 132 (Aug/2026) Several departure times Savings and flexibility
Corcovado Train R$ 134 (Aug/2026) ~20 min Classic experience

Prices as of August 2026; confirm on the official Consórcio Paineiras Corcovado and Corcovado Train websites.

Official Paineiras van

It’s the most used option and usually the cheapest. The vans depart from three points — Copacabana (Praça do Lido), Largo do Machado and the Paineiras Visitor Center — and the ticket already includes round trip and access to the monument. In August 2026, it cost R$ 87 boarding directly at Paineiras and R$ 132 departing from Copacabana or Largo do Machado; confirm the current price before buying, with half-price tickets for children, students, seniors and people with disabilities. There are many departure times throughout the day. See the details in the guide to the Corcovado vans.

Corcovado Train

The little train leaves from Cosme Velho Station and climbs for about 20 minutes through the Atlantic Forest — it’s the most traditional and scenic way to get there. In August 2026, the adult ticket cost R$ 134; confirm the fare and discount rules on the Corcovado Train, which also includes access to the monument. As it’s the most famous “official” tour, it tends to be in higher demand, so it’s worth buying in advance on peak-season days.

Parque Lage trail

For those who enjoy adventure, you can hike up the Parque Lage–Corcovado trail, inside Tijuca National Park. The trail is free, but it’s moderate to difficult, with very steep sections, and can take up to 4 hours depending on your fitness level — it’s not recommended for children under 10 or inexperienced hikers. According to the official trail page, the park is open daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and entry through the gate closes at 3 p.m. When you reach the top, you still need to buy the monument admission ticket; in August 2026, it cost R$ 58 full price and R$ 32 for the categories listed by the park. The trail or the entire park may close as a precaution, so confirm the situation before heading out.

Uber or car

It’s not possible to go up to the statue by Uber or private car. Use the car to reach Cosme Velho Station, if you choose the train, or the Paineiras Visitor Center, if you choose the van; the final stretch depends on authorized transport. Compare prices and boarding points in the guide to the Corcovado vans, plan the best time and leave the monument visit to the complete Christ the Redeemer guide.
