It’s Rio’s biggest festival of Japanese culture and food, heir to Rio Matsuri, with taiko drumming, cosplay, voice actors, anime song shows and a themed restaurant by chef André Kawai. Before you buy, decide between a daily ticket and the passport: the daily ticket doesn’t let you leave and come back.

In this article: the price of each ticket and which one’s worth it, the schedule, how to get to Riocentro, what to bring and where to stay.

What is Carioca Matsuri

A festival inspired by matsuri, Japan’s street parties, that carries on the legacy of Rio Matsuri (last held in 2020). It’s organized by Tasa Eventos with Agência Siga, promising more than 80 hours of programming across 11,000 m² of Riocentro and expecting around 35,000 people. It blends traditional Japan (taiko, Okinawan dance, martial arts, ikebana and bonsai) with otaku pop culture (cosplay, voice actors and anime music), and food is the heart of the event.

Tickets: prices and where to buy

The daily ticket costs R$ 120 full price and R$ 60 half-price; the 3-day passport runs R$ 320 (R$ 160 half-price). In Voyage Voyage’s October 2026 check, at batch 2, buying online added a 10% service fee, which isn’t charged at the official box office.

Passport3 days, with re-entryR$ 320R$ 160R$ 190

Batch 2, checked on 10/15/2026, without the 10% fee. Tap the price to buy on Ticketmaster (partner link).

The social ticket requires donating a book or manga in good condition on the day of the event. Each CPF can buy up to 4 tickets, 2 of them half-price.

Daily or passport? The daily ticket doesn’t allow you to leave and come back the same day. The passport comes with a physical credential that allows re-entry, and it pays off from the third day of the festival. VIP Sensei includes a lounge with finger food and drinks, an exclusive area in the audience, priority at meet & greet, giveaways and two one-day comps.

Where to buy without getting scammed: only on Ticketmaster or at the official box office, at Estádio Nilton Santos (Engenhão), Bilheteria Sul, Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with no service fee. Half-price tickets require proof at purchase and at entry; the quota is limited to 40% of tickets, and seniors don’t count toward that limit.

Schedule: taiko, cosplay, voice actors and food

The lineup released by the organizers has attractions every day, with no time grid published as of 10/15/2026. What’s already confirmed:

Rodrigo Coelho, from the Coelho no Japão channel, is the festival’s otaku ambassador. An armor exhibit from Sato Company and an official store round out the pavilion.

How to get to Riocentro

Riocentro is at Av. Salvador Allende, 6555, in Barra Olímpica, near the Olympic Park and far from the South Zone. By public transit, the route is Metro Line 4 to Jardim Oceânico and, from there, the BRT toward the Olympic Park and Riocentro area; check the day’s line on the MOBI-Rio app or Moovit before you head out.

By car or rideshare, expect traffic on Avenida das Américas and Linha Amarela at rush hour. The festival ends at 10 p.m.: if you stay until the end and live or are staying in the South Zone, arrange your ride back in advance, because 35,000 people leaving over three days concentrates rideshare demand late at night.

Where to stay for Carioca Matsuri

To go all three days, Barra da Tijuca is the best base: it has hotels, malls and restaurants and is just a few kilometers from Riocentro. Recreio is quieter and usually has lower nightly rates. If the idea is to combine the festival with classic sights like Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf, stay in the South Zone and set aside a Matsuri-only day, with the trip back already planned.
