Rio’s 2027 Carnival street parties (blocos) have their main stretch from February 6 to 9, but the day-by-day list with times and neighborhoods hasn’t been released yet. Riotur expects the street Carnival season to kick off on January 16, 2027. In 2026, the megablocos schedule came out on January 12; here’s how to plan your moves until then.
In this article: what each day looks like, blocos worth following, choosing your neighborhood, and getting back to the hotel.

As of our October 23, 2026 check, the Rio City Hall notice covers the authorization process but not the named 2027 schedule. Registering or filing a preliminary application doesn’t guarantee a bloco can parade on the requested day or route.

Rio Carnival Blocos on Saturday, February 6
Riotur hasn’t released the list of blocos for Saturday, February 6, 2027 yet. For now, there’s no gathering time or authorized route on this calendar.
If you arrive in Rio on Friday, save Saturday for one neighborhood at a time. When you pick your bloco, look up both the starting point and the dispersal point: leaving from the opposite end of the parade can change your walk back quite a bit.
Rio Carnival Blocos on Sunday, February 7
Sunday, February 7, 2027 is also without an official published list. Don’t use the weekday a bloco paraded in 2026 as confirmation for this edition.
If you want to party in the South Zone, pick your bloco before hopping between Copacabana, Ipanema and other neighborhoods. Two gathering points that look close on the map can mean a slow walk through the crowd; leave a buffer and don’t schedule anything right after.
Rio Carnival Blocos on Monday, February 8
The blocos for Monday, February 8, 2027 still depend on the official schedule. Monday is part of the main Carnival stretch, but that doesn’t confirm any specific name will parade.
If your chosen bloco happens in Flamengo or Botafogo, check the exact spot on the map before deciding on a station. A parade on the Aterro and another by Botafogo beach call for different routes; the neighborhood name alone isn’t enough to estimate the walk.
Rio Carnival Blocos on Tuesday, February 9
The list for Tuesday, February 9, 2027 wasn’t published as of the October check. The 10th is Ash Wednesday; if your trip ends that day, sort out your luggage and transport on Tuesday.
On your last day in town, pick a parade that fits your rest and hotel checkout times. If you have an early flight, calculate the route to the airport from your hotel without counting on finding a car in the bloco’s dispersal crowd.
Which Rio blocos are worth following for 2027?
Cordão do Bola Preta, Cordão do Boitatá, Monobloco and Bloco da Anitta are some of the names to follow on official channels. None of them has a confirmed 2027 date on this calendar; the examples below are from the 2026 schedule and help explain the difference between the street season and the four main days.
On the 2026 megablocos list published by Riotur, Bola Preta, Boitatá, Monobloco and Anitta were on the Circuito Preta Gil, gathering on Rua Primeiro de Março in the city center. Monobloco blends a bloco drum line with a repertoire of different Brazilian rhythms; Bola Preta carries the tradition of Rio Carnival’s cordões.
In 2026, Boitatá paraded before Carnival Saturday, while Anitta and Monobloco went the following weekend. That’s why booking a trip for just Saturday through Tuesday can leave out the very bloco that inspired the journey. Wait for your favorite’s 2027 date before locking in a non-refundable reservation. 2026 references, which don’t apply to 2027: Bola Preta on 2/14 (gathering at 7am, parade from 9am to 1pm) and Monobloco on 2/22 (7am; parade from 9am to noon), both on Rua Primeiro de Março in the city center; Sargento Pimenta on 2/16, from 10am to 2pm, at Av. Infante Dom Henrique, 75, Glória. The 2026 megablocos ran from 1/17 to 2/22, on weekends (Riotur, 1/12/2026).
How do I get to the blocos and back to the hotel?
Choose your station by the gathering address, and plan your return by the dispersal address. In the city center, Carioca is a reference point for some trips, but Carnival access and closures require a specific check; see the Carioca station page and the route map.
Under the regular rule reported by MetrôRio in October 2026, the system runs Monday to Saturday from 5am to midnight, and on Sundays and holidays from 7am to 11pm. These hours don’t confirm 2027 Carnival operation. Check the special scheme and your boarding station; don’t count on the subway running all night without that announcement.
At dispersal, walk to a street open to traffic before calling a car. Check the plate and the driver in the app and keep your phone tucked away while you wait. If you’re on your own, agree with someone in your group to leave together to the station or pickup point.

How is the Rio blocos schedule confirmed?
Riotur receives the applications and the process goes through review by public agencies plus supporting documents. On the 2027 municipal timeline, registration is expected to wrap up on January 15, with the street season expected to start on January 16. These milestones aren’t a promise of a date for releasing the full schedule.
Source: municipal notice on 2027 bloco registration, published in August 2026 and checked on 10/23/2026. The full list by day and neighborhood wasn’t released in that source; the total number of authorized parades for 2027 isn’t there either. In 2026, the megablocos schedule came out on 1/12, five days before the first parade, and the schedule and map were on the Blocos do Rio app and at carnavalderua.rio. Before heading out, check name, gathering point, time, route and any cancellation on those channels and on the bloco’s own.
The Rio Carnival 2027 guide brings together the trip overview and the Sapucaí parades. For choosing blocos, prioritize the street schedule: a grandstand or box ticket for the Sambadrome doesn’t give you access to a reserved area at a street parade.
Frequently asked questions
When do Rio’s blocos start in 2027?
Rio City Hall expects the street bloco season to start on January 16, 2027. The main Carnival stretch runs from February 6 to 9. The opening estimate doesn’t replace confirmation of each bloco’s day and time.
Has the Rio blocos schedule for 2027 come out yet?
As of our October 23, 2026 check, the available municipal notice still covered the authorization process. The full list of Rio blocos in 2027, with times, gathering points and routes, hadn’t been released. A bloco’s preliminary registration doesn’t equal an authorized parade.
What day are Bola Preta and Monobloco in 2027?
The 2027 dates for Cordão do Bola Preta and Monobloco aren’t confirmed on this calendar. Don’t carry the 2026 schedule over to the next year: Monobloco may justify a stay outside the Saturday-to-Tuesday window, depending on the date actually announced.
Will the Rio subway run overnight during Carnival 2027?
MetrôRio’s special operation for Carnival 2027 should be checked once it’s announced. The regular hours published in October 2026 don’t guarantee overnight service or that all entrances will be open. Plan your return around the time and station announced for the event.
Can I go to several Rio blocos in one day?
You can combine blocos on the same day when the schedule and routes allow. If you’re visiting from out of town, choosing parades in the same neighborhood cuts down on travel. Leave a gap between one’s dispersal and the next one’s gathering, and keep a backup plan for getting back to the hotel.
