Christmas on a Cruise 2026: Sailings That Include December 25

🇧🇷 POR | 🇺🇸 EN | 🇪🇸 ES

Christmas on a cruise in 2026 means spending December 25 during the trip, not just setting sail in December. In the schedules checked in September, there are Brazilian options such as MSC Virtuosa departing from Santos on 12/19 or from Salvador on 12/22, and MSC Seaview departing from Santos on 12/20. Check the itinerary and the cabin before booking: the Christmas Eve dinner and extras vary by cruise line and fare.

Which departures include Christmas 2026 on board?

The Logitravel listings checked in September 2026 show MSC Virtuosa with embarkation in Santos on December 19 and in Salvador on December 22; both eight-day trips cover December 25. MSC Seaview appears with a departure from Santos on December 20, also spanning Christmas. Dates and availability can change: confirm the day-by-day calendar of the trip you select.

The Virtuosa combines Brazilian stops such as Búzios, Salvador and Maceió, depending on the embarkation port. The Seaview combines Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina on the December 20 departure, requiring closer attention to international documents. Costa also advertises themed Christmas cruises in the South American season, but the ship and date should be checked on the departure page before treating an offer as available.

The “Christmas and New Year’s” page brings both celebrations together. So look at the start date and the end date: a departure on December 26 or 27 can be excellent for the New Year’s countdown, but Christmas has already passed. If the intention is to celebrate the night of the 24th into the 25th, also confirm which port or which sailing day the ship will be in; the experience changes a lot between spending the night at sea and having a port stop the next day.

If the goal is the New Year’s countdown, see New Year’s on a cruise or the comparison of ships for New Year’s. These are different decisions, and it’s worth comparing the specific sailing for each date.

How much does Christmas on a cruise cost and what’s included?

In the offers seen in September 2026 in the MSC selection on Logitravel, the Virtuosa departure from Santos on 12/19 appeared from R$ 5,024 per person, the Salvador one on 12/22 from R$ 5,952, and the Seaview one on 12/20 from R$ 6,214. These are showcase prices, subject to occupancy, cabin type and change; the total of your booking should be checked before paying.

In addition to the fare, include travel to the port, a possible hotel the night before, drinks, internet, specialty restaurants, shore excursions, insurance and expenses in foreign currency if the itinerary leaves Brazil. The onboard full board and the fees shown in the offer don’t mean everything is included. Read the services summary for the cabin category and ask specifically about drinks at the Christmas Eve dinner and kids’ programming.

The special Christmas Eve dinner and decorations are advertised by the cruise lines for Christmas sailings, but the time, restaurant, table reservation and menu depend on the trip. Don’t buy a cabin counting on an extra service that doesn’t appear in the fare conditions. Set aside some budget margin for transfers and for medical care on board, which is usually charged.

Which cabin should you choose for Christmas on the ship?

An interior cabin lowers the initial cost; an ocean view with a window offers natural light; a balcony provides a private open space, useful for those who will spend more time in the cabin. Families need to check how many beds there actually are, where the cabin is on the deck map and whether connecting cabins are available.

Compare the final fare for the same itinerary in two categories. A drinks promotion may apply only to a balcony or suite, while a cheaper fare may include less flexibility in choosing the cabin or dinner time. Note the price difference per person and see whether the benefit offered exceeds that amount in your actual use. Those bothered by motion can look for a cabin in a central position and on a middle deck; even so, the sea can change the sensation of swaying.

If the December 24 dinner is the main point of the trip, confirm the meal seating assigned and the Christmas Eve dinner rules in the contract or with the cruise line. The name “Christmas cruise” indicates the theme, but doesn’t guarantee a specific table, included drinks or a shore excursion. The cabin should be chosen together with these conditions, not in isolation based on the photo.

Is Christmas on a cruise worth it for families?

It’s worth it for families who want to bundle lodging, meals and travel into a single booking and are willing to follow the ship’s pace. Kids may enjoy the onboard programming, but the minimum age, access to clubs and schedules change by cruise line. Check everything before choosing the date.

For babies and small children, consider diapers, regular medications, a crib and special meals: anything not confirmed by the ship needs to be brought or arranged before boarding. Older adults and people with reduced mobility should check the accessibility of the cabin and the port stops, especially when disembarking uses a tender boat. Pregnant travelers need to check the cruise line’s week limits and medical guidance. The convenience of a ship doesn’t replace reading these restrictions.

A longer trip includes more sea days and may appeal to those who want to rest, while an itinerary full of port stops favors excursions. For a first cruise, prioritize an embarkation port that’s easy to reach and a cabin that fits the total budget. Our guide to your first party cruise has tips that also help at Christmas.

How do you get to the port without rushing the embarkation?

The check-in deadline at the terminal comes in the voucher and can end hours before the ship sets sail. Plan to arrive in the city the night before if you depend on a flight or a long drive: December brings traffic, high occupancy and greater sensitivity to delays.

For Santos, consider the additional journey from the São Paulo airports. For Salvador, the booking may allow local embarkation on a round-trip sailing, but confirm the terminal and the check-in window for your departure. If you spend the night before in Santos, you can look into things to do in the city, leaving embarkation day free for documents and luggage.

What documents and insurance are required?

Check the cruise line’s and the itinerary’s requirements before paying. Departures that visit Argentina or Uruguay require a travel document accepted for the passenger’s nationality; a driver’s license doesn’t replace an ID card or passport. Children may need authorization, depending on who is traveling with them. Check validity, the condition of the document and the spelling of the name on the booking.

Driver’s license at embarkation — checked on 10/16/2026: for Brazilian adults, MSC and Costa accept a driver’s license in good condition on cruises with stops only in Brazil. With Argentina or Uruguay, a driver’s license isn’t valid: bring the original accepted physical ID or a valid passport, according to the cruise line.

Under 18: the MSC list (clause 5.9.1) for domestic trips requires an ID card, original birth certificate or passport with a minimum of 6 months; Costa requires an ID card issued less than 10 years ago or an original birth certificate only for children under 12. A driver’s license isn’t on these lists for minors. Bring proof of parentage and the authorizations required depending on the accompanying adults and the itinerary. The details are in cruise documents.

Medical care on board is charged, even on a domestic itinerary. Compare the coverage for medical assistance, trip interruption and cancellation, noting exclusions for pre-existing conditions and the enrollment rules. To travel at Christmas, when rebooking can be expensive, also read the cruise fare policy before paying.

Tip: care at the ship’s medical center is paid separately, even on a Brazil-only itinerary, and a medical disembarkation can make the trip home more expensive. Compare travel insurance with cruise coverage.
