What’s the difference between Dodô, Osmar and Batatinha?

Dodô and Osmar are the go-to circuits for following the trios elétricos; Batatinha brings the party to the Historic Center, with no trio elétrico parade listed in the 2026 city guide. Pick based on the kind of party you want and the neighborhood where you plan to end the night, before you choose your hotel.

CircuitReference route in the 2026 city guideHow to choose
Dodô — Barra–OndinaFarol da Barra → As Meninas do Brasil monument, in Ondina; about 4.5 km.Trios elétricos, roped-off blocos and pipoca along the waterfront. Barra and Ondina sit at opposite ends of the route.
Osmar — Campo GrandePraça do Campo Grande → start of Avenida Carlos Gomes; about 4 km.Traditional circuit with trios, samba blocos, afro blocos and kids’ blocos. Staying in Vitória can put you closer to the start.
Batatinha — PelourinhoPelourinho and the area around Praça da Sé and Castro Alves square; not a single trio route.Brass bands, small blocos and marchinhas in the Historic Center. Check the exact square for each performance.

The routes and profiles above come from the official circuit guide, published on 02/09/2026. They’re references to help you understand the city: road closures, gathering points and 2027 operations all depend on the new edition’s announcement.

The circuit name doesn’t tell you whether you need to buy an abadá: on Dodô and Osmar, know the difference between pipoca (outside the rope) and the bloco’s space. A camarote is a separate product, with its own entrance and address. Our comparison of pipoca, bloco or camarote in Salvador helps with that decision; here, the focus is choosing your area and organizing your days.

The afro blocos are part of Salvador’s history and Black cultural expression. When checking a parade, note the bloco’s name and its gathering point, because the identity of the manifestation isn’t limited to the circuit it passes through.

Circuits on Saturday, February 6

On Saturday, focus on learning the access points of a single circuit. On Barra–Ondina, decide beforehand whether you’ll follow the trio or stay in one stretch; walking the whole thing changes your starting point and how much energy the night takes.

🛏️ Stay close: In Barra you can look for a base near the start of Dodô; check the hotel’s street and access during road closures🚇 Getting back: 2027 transport and road closures aren’t out yet; agree on an address outside the circuit.💡 Tip: Set a meeting point away from the trios’ path. Save a screenshot of the address so you don’t depend on cell signal.

Circuits on Sunday, February 7

If you want to mix the waterfront with the Historic Center, split the outings into different time slots. Don’t book a Pelourinho performance right after a bloco in Ondina without factoring in travel, walking and crowds.

🛏️ Stay close: In Pelourinho you can look for lodging near the Batatinha squares; confirm the distance to the stage you want🚇 Getting back: 2027 transport and road closures aren’t out yet; agree on an address outside the circuit.💡 Tip: With kids, plan a short stay, confirm the children’s activity and locate the restroom and exit before entering the most crowded area.

Circuits on Monday, February 8

Campo Grande is a good choice for experiencing the traditional circuit without trying to repeat the waterfront itinerary. Check where your bloco’s participation begins: the circuit route and each group’s gathering point aren’t necessarily the same address.

🛏️ Stay close: Vitória lets you look for a base near Campo Grande; check the walk from your lodging to the gathering point🚇 Getting back: 2027 transport and road closures aren’t out yet; agree on an address outside the circuit.💡 Tip: Choose a stretch with a recognizable exit and agree on the trip back with your whole group. Don’t count on quickly crossing an avenue packed with crowds and trios.

Circuits on Tuesday, February 9

If you end the last day in Ondina, plan your return from Ondina, even if you started in Barra. Anyone flying out on Ash Wednesday should leave room for rest, packing and getting to the airport.

🛏️ Stay close: In Ondina you can look for a base near the final stretch of Dodô; confirm the dispersal address of your chosen bloco🚇 Getting back: 2027 transport and road closures aren’t out yet; agree on an address outside the circuit.💡 Tip: Don’t treat Tuesday as confirmation that the city party ends there: final times and Wednesday events need their own announcement.

How much do camarotes and abadás cost in 2027?

Camarotes sell from Thursday (2/04) to Tuesday (2/09). Prices per day, no fees listed (checked on 10/22/2026):

The city government also announced the 2027 pre-Carnival: Pipoco on 1/29, followed by Furdunço (Saturday) and Fuzuê (Sunday) (City Hall, 02/17/2026).

How do you get to the circuits and back in the early hours?

Plan your trip there around the gathering point and your trip back around where you plan to leave the party. On Dodô, starting in Barra and ending in Ondina means the distance to your hotel can change a lot; on Batatinha, check the square and the access street.

Don’t assume a car will reach the door of the bloco or camarote. The 2027 mobility plan isn’t out yet. In 2026 (2/12 to 2/17), the Expresso Salvador linked shopping malls to Barra, Ondina and the Center from noon to 6 a.m., departing every 20 minutes at R$ 24 per ride, and the Buzu da Folia (C010 Lapa–Calabar and C011 Lapa–Garibaldi) was free, 24 hours. Choose an address outside the closures and share the spot with your group before heading out.

How do you check each circuit’s schedule for 2027?

Check the city lineup by circuit, date and time on the official Salvador Carnival portal. When we checked on 10/22/2026, the page still showed the 2026 edition, with no 2027 lineup. The 2026 lineup was released by the city on 02/04/2026, about a week before opening.

Official Carnival runs Saturday through Tuesday (2/06 to 2/09), but camarotes sell from Thursday (2/04). That doesn’t confirm trios or a city lineup on Thursday: Thursday openings and the Ash Wednesday Arrastão need their own date, route and time. Posters from the previous edition don’t confirm 2027 days or artists.

Frequently asked questions

What are the main Salvador Carnival circuits?

The three reference circuits are Dodô, between Barra and Ondina; Osmar, in Campo Grande; and Batatinha, in Pelourinho. The official 2026 guide describes trios on the first two and brass bands, small blocos and marchinhas on Batatinha. Detailed 2027 operations depend on a new announcement.

Which circuit is in Barra?

The Dodô Circuit is Barra–Ondina. On the route described by the 2026 city guide, it starts at Farol da Barra and runs to the As Meninas do Brasil monument in Ondina, about 4.5 km. Confirm your bloco’s gathering and dispersal points for the 2027 edition.

Is Batatinha better for going with kids?

The Batatinha Circuit has a different vibe from the big trios, but the circuit name doesn’t guarantee kids’ programming or easy crowds at every hour. With kids, look for an activity announced for that audience, check restrooms and access, and pick an exit before the crowd peaks.

Do I need an abadá to enter the circuit?

The abadá identifies access to a roped-off bloco’s space, per the organizer’s rules. It’s not a general ticket for all Salvador circuits. Pipoca and camarote are different experiences; before paying, confirm exactly which area, day and service the product includes.

Has the Salvador circuit schedule for 2027 been released?

When we checked on 10/22/2026, the city portal still showed the 2026 edition. The 2027 lineup wasn’t there; the 2026 one came out on 02/04/2026. A bloco’s ticket sale announcement doesn’t equal the full city Carnival schedule.
