When is the Barranquilla Carnival 2027?

The Barranquilla Carnival will run from February 6 to 9, 2027, according to the official organization. The window coincides with Carnival Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday in Brazil. To enjoy the first day well rested, arriving by Friday, 02/05, is a better plan than landing a few hours before the parade.

The celebration has activities before the four main days. The organization announced a schedule starting 01/16, with the Lectura del Bando, at the presentation of the 2027 kings. That doesn’t make any January date a substitute for the big February parades.

What is the Barranquilla Carnival like?

The Barranquilla Carnival brings together dances, music, masks and comparsas tied to the cultures of the Colombian Caribbean. It’s not a Colombian version of the Sambadrome: it has its own traditions, parade spaces and neighborhood parties. Cumbia, congo and other expressions are part of this living heritage.

Unesco has listed the celebration on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity since 2008, following its 2003 proclamation. The blend of Indigenous, African and European roots helps explain the diversity of the dances and costumes. Ask permission before photographing people up close and respect the groups’ spaces.

What are stages and how do you buy tickets?

Stages are structures for watching the parades; in the Colombian context, the term doesn’t mean the stage of a Brazilian concert. A ticket may grant access to a specific area and to certain days. Before comparing prices, identify location, cover, seating, restrooms, food and rules for children.

The 2026 operational communication ran through February; don’t wait until the last week to plan your trip.

Buy through the box office indicated by the organization, checking the product and the year on the payment screen. Don’t treat a QR code received by message as proof of authenticity. Keep your receipt, section and conditions. A cultural tour with the word “Carnival” in its name also doesn’t replace a ticket to the Batalla de Flores.

Where to stay during the Barranquilla Carnival?

El Prado suits those who want a traditional base for exploring the city; Riomar has several hotel options to compare amenities and rates. The best location depends on the event and the access you bought. Without knowing your ticket’s gate, it makes no sense to promise a walkable return just because the hotel is in northern Barranquilla.

In Voyage Voyage’s October 2026 survey, eight hotels rated 8 or higher on Booking had offers between R$ 4,342 and R$ 14,121 for two adults, five nights from 02/05 to 02/10/2027, including the taxes shown. The range reflects the sample checked, not the minimum price across the whole city.

The Hotel Boutique M offered a double room for R$ 5,872, with the taxes shown and breakfast included, free cancellation before 02/04/2027 and payment at the property (Booking, Oct 2026). At another hotel, the search showed tax separately: compare the final total and check whether there are tax conditions specific to your case, without assuming an exemption.

How do I get there and back to the hotel after the parade?

The airport to search for is Ernesto Cortissoz, code BAQ, which serves Barranquilla. Compare the full flight there, with baggage and connections, instead of only looking at arrival in Bogotá or Cartagena. If your ticket ends in another city, the final leg should count toward both the cost and the travel time.

Arrange a pickup point with your hotel that’s outside the blocked street, check the vehicle’s identification and avoid crossing the dispersing crowd looking for a ride. A fare seen on a normal day doesn’t guarantee the price after a parade. For the early hours, keep the address saved and preserve your phone battery.

For tourist travel to Colombia, the Federal Police advises on using an identity card issued less than ten years ago with a photo that identifies the holder, in place of a passport; a driver’s license won’t do. Double-check the destination’s and any connection’s requirements before boarding.

Which itinerary includes rest, and what to do between parades?

Pick one priority parade, add another only if you have the energy, and leave at least half a day unscheduled. A suggested plan for 02/05 to 02/10 is to arrive on Friday, dedicate Saturday to your chosen event, use Sunday for a slow morning, reserve Monday for another performance and keep Tuesday flexible before your return.

Gran Malecón, Barrio Abajo and the Carnival Museum help you get to know the city beyond the grandstand, but check each attraction’s hours during the festivities. The organization itself presents these places as part of the visit. Don’t stack two long excursions on top of party nights: travel and heat are tiring too.
